Me and my partner have been to Thailand before (March 2008) and stayed for 10 days in Phuket (one night in Bangkok). We've decided that we would like to go back and see abit more. Plan so far is to go for 3 weeks in December, I love hot weather so not sure what the weather would be like in certain areas at that time. We would both like to go to Koh Samui and head over for a full moon party as well. Not sure of what other islands we want to visit as yet. | The main thing is that while I want to be organised, my partner wants to book things as we go along. I would like all flights, hotels etc booked before we leave the UK so I know exactly what we are doing however he would like to just book our flight into Bangkok and one nights accommodation there and then go from there. What would you recommend? I'm abit apprehensive because of the time of year and also because I dont want to end up staying somewhere I wont like. Anyone who could give recommendations for itinary (taking into account our time scales) and how we should go about booking I'd really appreciate it. Also anyone who has been there, done that, it would be good to also get some idea of costings for this. We dont want to spend a fortune but also dont want to do this on a shoestring either.... I was there in November and December a few years ago. I think your boyfriend may be right. No need to prebook. I have never done that and had no problems with finding places to stay. I have so far been 3 times in Thailand and never prebooked anything. Just because you prebook, does not mean you will be staying in someplace you like. Best to have the option of leaving, in my opinon. Besides, prebooking on the interent makes accomocation more expensive. it would be good to also get some idea of costings for this.![]() Travelling in Thailand can cost as little as 20 Euros or less between you per day, or it can cost more. For 50 Euros per day between you, you would be able to afford luxury. Or pay more if you want, for more convenience and even more luxury. Thailand is the type of place which caters for all budgets. I deleted your duplicate post. :) | Rat on the Road Kris and Kate Post Count: 447 Msg: #4 18 weeks ago, August 17th 2009 | Yep, ditto what Mell says. Book your flight to Bangkok and your first night's accommodation - and then play it by ear from there. There is always accommodation. Thailand is actually down on bookings now because of all the political problems. | If you are worried about booking accommodation on islands before taking the ferry over - you can always book it on the mainland before you travel over. It will still be cheaper than booking from home. We have done that before. There are travel agents in the port towns that book ahead. The majority of guesthouses, bungalows etc. in Thailand don't have internet booking. So you are not only paying more to do this, but restricting you choice without seeing places first. Check out Travelfish for some info on places to stay and possible prices. An itinerary is hard to give you, as you aren't clear on where you want to go. Do some surfing around the blogs and see what inspires you. If you have 3 weeks, I would suggest you do some inland places too. Consider Chiang Mai and the North, a national park for jungle trekking perhaps, Kanchanaburi, Ayuttaya..... Get some culture as well as some beach. sarah1983 SARAH SMITH Post Count: 3 Msg: #5 18 weeks ago, August 17th 2009 | Thank you both for your posts. I think I'm just the type of person who likes things to be organised all the time! I'm just abit apprehensive incase we end up with nowhere to stay on christmas day although I know that the likelihood of that is slim! So would you recommend not booking any internal flights either until we are in bangkok? Any recommendations for travel agents in bangkok? I haven't done much research as yet but I know we do want a mixture of beach and activity, wouldn't want to go all that way just to laze on a beach the whole time. Well I would but my boyfriend wouldn't! | Mell Mell Post Count: 14927 Msg: #6 18 weeks ago, August 18th 2009 | You could also take overnight busses instead of flying too. The VIP ones are quite comfortable and air conditioned and they go frequently. I just go to the bus station and ask for one going on the night I want to go. I only buy the tickets a few hours in advance. I find them convenient, because it means I dont have to get all the way out to the airport and leave time for checking in etc. | If you are going south to islands and beaches, and you want to try something else too you could go to Koh Sok National Park to see the jungle. Arts Lodge is a nice place to stay there. Koh Sok is on the bus route between Koh Samui and Phukett, so it would be convenient for you to visit while you are on your way from one island to the other. A copy of the Lonely Planet guide to Thailand might be a useful purchase for you. It has all kinds of practical information for travellers. Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 6 | ||||||||||||||
