| Advice on whether to travel to Costa Rica during Holy Week | ||||||||||||||||||
LaurieinColorado Laurie Ritchie Post Count: 1 Msg: #1 98 days ago, August 14th 2009 | We are considering traveling to Costa Rica during Holy Week 2010 - the week between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We have learned since booking our airline tickets (sigh) yesterday that we might likely encounter the entire country shut down during that week - attractions (national parks?), restaurants, shops, dive operators, etc. | Has anyone traveled there during this apparently interesting week? We don't mind the crowds and would enjoy seeing the hoopla surrounding Holy Week - but will we be able to do anything besides hang out? Please advise! In heavily Catholic countries everything will be closed on Friday and probably on most Sundays too. Things might also be closed on Easter Monday, which is the Monday straight after Easter Sunday. But, Costa Rica is a popular tourist destination, so hopefully they allow for non Catholic tourists and open some restaurants and dive operators etc. Mel advensteve Stephen Siddall Post Count: 10 Msg: #3 94 days ago, August 18th 2009 | Hola, | I have lived and worked there. Holy Week is special. Heavy tourist spots will still operate. Private areas will shut down. Both coasts are very popular at that time. Reservations are a must, if you want a certain level of service. Beaches will be crowded. Public transportation will be limited and crowded. I am at <snip> Let me know if I can help [Edited: 04:34 - Jo Trouble - Email address removed.
