Hi all, I need some help deciding on travelling through Malaysia to Singapore from Thailand. I have six weeks in SE Asia altogether. Currently I am trying to decide whether I should pay for a three week tour that takes me to Singapore, or if I'd be better going it alone and making my own way to Singapore.

Has anyone done this trip before, either alone or with others? How safe is it? And can you advise a route and things to see? Advice needed! I must decide quite soon.

Thanks, DQ

Hello Daniel ;

You can do that on your own ,, u dont need any travel agencey. i have done it few times with friends and alone also. The road is safe dont worry. How long u r planning to stay in Malaysia first ??

Well it depends. I am trying to decide which of these two trips I want to do...

Sydney to Bangkok to Singapore via Malaysia overland to Casablanca to Barcelona to London. I don't know if I am actually going to have enough money to complete this trip though.

Or, alternately do the following

Sydney to Singapore travel overland through Malaysia, then through Thailand to Cambodia, then to Vietnam and then catch a flight to Bali before catching a flight home.

Both trips will take 3 months and I can stay in countries for however long suits, so long as I am in Ho Chi Minh City by the 25th of November.

However I've never travelled alone before and need help. Maybe you could tell me a rough itinerary of what you did on your trips?

Hi Daniel

If you have a look around all of the travel blogs on here, you will get an idea of itineraries that people have done.

Travel blog's Independent travel guide will also be helpful to you, as a new lone traveller.

The over land and sea forum also has some ideas of typical routes people do.

In 3 months, as your first trip, option one sounds a bit much. Is it on that bus that goes between Oz and the UK? How do you get overland from Malaysia to Casablanca?

It's an awful lot of countries to tackle in 3 months.....

The second option sounds a better first trip option. It's a typical route for backpacking SE Asia. There are hundreds of blogs on here from other people who have done it. You don't need to do a tour, it's easy to do independently.

Hope this helps.

Kate

Sorry I'll make myself clear. Option 1 is Thailand--Malaysia--Singapore--Morocco, with Singapore to Morocco on a plane direct :P

I will look at those threads you suggested in any case.

Thanks Kate

Hi Daniel;

I think i agree with Kate about the trip route; If i was in your place i will do the SE Asia route and do Morroco some other times. Well About Malaysia as you were asking, If you are going for beaches i would highly recommend the east cost, there is beautiful islands like; Tioman, Redang, and Perhantian. I would also suggest the Taman Negara national Park, Cameron Highlands, and Langkawi.
