Don't take the car. You can buy a cheap car there, if needed. Public transport is part of the game. Besides, unless it is 4wheel many places could have accees problems Reply to this

Wow, come on people, you've got to give some better info than this!

Driving to CR, read my post here

As well as getting around in CR, there are plenty of buses to get you to where you need to go.

As far as places you'd want to travel to in the interior of the country:

Braulio Carrillo National Park, AMAZING!
Monteverde (rainforest, very lush rainforest)
Arenal (active volcano and lake)

And the Caribbean coast:

Cahuita
Puerto Viejo
Tortuguero National Park

And the Pacific:

Playa Tamarindo
Playa del Coco
Playa Manuel Antonio
Jaco
Playa Dominical
Playa Manzanillo

Sooo as far as purchasing property I don't know much about that but I can tell you that the Pacific side of CR is the more "Americanized" part of CR, especially on the Nicoya Peninsula. If that's what you are looking for, then head there. It's basically like Florida, but don't expect it to be any cheaper in terms of cost of living. Property prices may be less there though. It's full of condos and beach resorts and housing developments.

Personally I'd live on the Caribbean side. Okay so you can't see the sunset on the beach but the sunrise is nice! It's a lot less touristy and has a much more Afro-Caribe vibe to it. Very cool area of the country that doesn't get the plaudits it deserves.

Anyways, hope this helps. Keep us posted on your plans! 😊
Pura Vida!

Hi

I am Costarican and to tell you the truth stay away from the Caribbean if you want to move to Costa Rica, if you want a place that is not to touristy, peaceful, with really good real state prices, I would really highly recommend a small town in Puntarenas up in the mountains with excellent view of the whole entire gulf of Nicoya, nice fresh weather and only about forty-five minutes away from down town Puntarenas called Miramar the local people there are really nice and there is no crime at all, if you have any belonging you want to have sent down here I would recommend you have them shipped down here to Puerto Caldera were all the paper work, customs and transportation is allot easier and cheaper, Puerto Limon is a complete mess and they will steal anything you have trust me I did it once and yes it is true you can buy a really good cheap used cars here in Costa Rica and it is easier because you don't have to deal with customs.

Take care and enjoy you're trip.
