Mona3010 Shivali Mittal Post Count: 3 Msg: #1 119 days ago, July 27th 2009 | Hello, | I am planning a holiday in Spain for 9 days in August. I do not have the final itenary but I would like to go to Barcelona, madrid , Sevilla ,grenada, San Sebastien and Bilbao. Can anyone suggest if it is a good decision to go to so many cities or should I just pick few. How can I get more information on trains - eg from Barcelona to Madrid and Madrid to Grenada? Any suggestions on cheap accomodation in Madrid and Grenada? Please advice. I got a a return ticket from Glasgow to Alicante for £40 with Ryan Air back in June. accomodation again is very cheap now especially in the small tourist towns along the med. If you want to hit the big cities not much has changed to be honest. Trains are good buses take an age even some "express" ones. | debby12 debby hains Post Count: 1 Msg: #3 118 days ago, July 28th 2009 | As suggested by Dj Barbie, accomodations are actually cheap. If you want you can check this website for good deals:<snip> | [Edited: 11:07 - Mell ] Mona3010 Shivali Mittal Post Count: 3 Msg: #4 118 days ago, July 28th 2009 | Thanks DJ, Thanks Debby. As I am travelling alone, is it safe to stay in hostels? | Dj Barbie DJ Barbie Post Count: 75 Msg: #5 118 days ago, July 28th 2009 | heard that question loads recently. Everyone always says no but from my experience theres always risk. City hostels you are more likely to bump in annoying Football fans following there team and also homeless and drunks looking for cheap bed ( although many hostels do watch out for regular trouble makers) Small town hostels are on the whole more likely to have like minded backpackers more interested in exploring the local area and getting to know people than being weirdo's, but as I said theres always a risk. Also saying that your more far more unsafe walking down the street in many English and Scottish cities than in European hostels. | Go on the buddy forum and see if any other girlies are traveling your way, I'm leaving for Austria from Scotland but not going to med till spring, or I would have said to get a group together and go for a jaunt! But take a look at the other forums you may find someone. Rat on the Road Kris and Kate Post Count: 412 Msg: #6 118 days ago, July 28th 2009 | Hi | Six cities in 9 days seems a lot to do. Bear in mind that Madrid to Granada will take you 6 hours by bus. Barcelona to Madrid is a pretty long journey by train/bus unless you fly.... Have you considered travelling distances in your itinerary? You seem to have about a day per city. Bearing in mind that there is a lot to see in each city (there are 3 world famous art museums in Madrid for example) - perhaps you want to consider less cities but more time in each. liliram liliram Post Count: 387 Msg: #7 116 days ago, July 30th 2009 | Too many for a 9 day holiday. I suggest you pick which one of the major major cities most interest you: Madrid, Barcelona or Sevilla. Having chosen one, you may then make plans to visit nearby cities. For instance, if based in madrid, you can do salamanca, avila, toledo, etc. | Dj Barbie DJ Barbie Post Count: 75 Msg: #8 116 days ago, July 30th 2009 | If you plan it well I think giving yourself 3 days travel time isn't bad Spain ain't that big! :) I say go for it! and if you can't get to a city just come back, or if you want more time to see something just stay! | luxurytraveller luxury Post Count: 2 Msg: #9 115 days ago, July 31st 2009 | Hi I only stayed in Madrid and Barcelona so far, except short day trips to other cites. Id say Madrid is a must for at least 1 week or two. Its too large to get a grip of the city in less than that time. I recommend some of the 4 star hotels around plaza major. Cheap Hotels in Madrid are really easy to find nothing like Paris or London. So good luck than. | Mona3010 Shivali Mittal Post Count: 3 Msg: #10 114 days ago, August 1st 2009 | Thanks everyone.......I think I will start with Barcelona and depending on how it goes, would plan further. Do let me know if you pln to visit India sometime and would want more information on the same. :) | AnandThakkar Anand T Post Count: 27 Msg: #11 89 days ago, August 26th 2009 | Hey Mona, i am Anand, from Mumbai , holidaying here in Spain for 1 month...i put you an private mail ..keep in touch. | ivanchan ivan gallo Post Count: 1 Msg: #12 78 days ago, September 6th 2009 | Hi there! | I came back yeserday from my trip in Spain, I really enjoy it, peaple, food, cities are all amazing. The last town I visited has been Valencia and I had a really good surprise. Valencia is a very beautyfull city with its historical monuments and its ultra modern bulinding. City of arts and sciences is really amazing. There I've been staying in a apartement in the center of the town, 'caus I don't like hotels. I've found a very nice apartament for me and my friend in a building called 50flats, that is part of a company calle Valenciaflats, I suggest u all if you're going to Valencia to call them, it's cheap and very confortable. You can visit ther website in this link: <snip> So, 'till the next trip! First of all, for cheap hostels visit Madrid Man. There is a great list of hostels in Madrid, and links to their website. As far as getting around, I would do it with the train. If you start in Madrid, the AVE (fast train) goes to Sevilla in 2 hours. From Sevilla to Granada is also a two-3 hour train ride. Then from Granada to Barcelona you can take an overnight train (book in advance, they fill up!) and save yourself a night of accommodation, as well. Then from Barcelona to Madrid there is a brand new AVE line, it takes about 2 hours as well. The trains, and the AVEs are a little more expensive, but much faster and worth it, especially if you are short on time. For something cheap to do in Madrid, consider taking a podcast walking tour from Sputnik Guides. They're free and a great way to explore the city!
