Does this require 'invitations' from travel agency?

I'm intending to travel to Mongolia this summer and will take the Beijing - Ulaan Baatar train. I planned to get my visa at the Mongolian embassy in Beijing.

Right now I'm hearing different stories about the requirements for visa. I thought that, as a Dutch resident, I only needed to submit a travel itinerary to get a 30 days tourist visa, but I've also heard several times that I'm gonna need some kind of invitation, which can be attained through a travel agency.

How did you guys get your Mongolian visa?
And who of you ever needed an invitation from a travel agency? Is that difficult to get and do you think I can also get it for the full 30 days? Reply to this

Yeah I'm planning on going to Mongolia too in a few months and would love to know how to go about the visa in Beijing. So I just need to go to a travel agency to get the letter then head over to the consulate? Reply to this

I didn't need to show any invitation letter if I wanted to stay 30 days max. I did hand in a travel itinerary and a ticket BJ - UB (which I cancelled the day after), but not sure whether that is necessary.
Keep in mind though, embassy is just opened for 2 hours (believe 9:00 - 11:00) and they close at exactly 11:00, no matter how many ppl there still are in line. Be early. Reply to this

depending on your nationality, the embassy is requiring invitation letter. But i'm not sure which countries exactly need it. we had tour and invitation letter from local tour operator. the website was www.mongol-destination.com. try to ask the agency, probably they will know more about it.

Been browsing blogs etc and noticed your travel dates. my husband and I are headed over from the 3rd thru the 23rd. I had not heard anything about invitations required for entry. Reply to this
