Moving to China from the UK...What do I REALLY need??
| I'm moving to China in July for 3 months as part of a graduate scheme and would like any advice on what I should bring. I'm moving from the UK and would like any advice on what would make the move slightly easier i.e essentials to brings, and any comforts that would be useful? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

For men, the only thing which is in very limited choice is deodorant...that's it. | Hi from Shanghai, Peter harmlessbunny - Post Count: 2 Msg: #3 28 weeks ago, June 18th 2009 | Hi Josh, it depends on which city you are going to stay, for most city you can buy almost everything you need from supermarket. Please forgive me about my english. :o) | Rat on the Road Kris and Kate Post Count: 449 Msg: #4 28 weeks ago, June 18th 2009 | marmite. | I don't know about China actually, but I can't get it in Vietnam. Of course, if you a 'hate it' kinda guy, it probably won't be top of your list. PA Leslie Pierre-Alexandre Post Count: 881 Msg: #5 28 weeks ago, June 18th 2009 | Hi Kris and Kate, | Are you in Hanoi or Saigon? In Saigon, you should be albe to get it at Veggies, at the corner of Le Than Ton and Thi Sach. Are you in Vietnam for the moment? Peter PA Leslie Pierre-Alexandre Post Count: 881 Msg: #6 28 weeks ago, June 18th 2009 | Hi...me again...if you are in Haiphong...I've sadly have no clue...there could be a way to get it...go to the best hotel around...ask to sepak to the F&B manager...he may be able to get his hands on a jar by his providers. I know it sound crazy...but you cannot imagine how many people order wine, meats, seafood and other stuff straight from hotels and restaurants....just need a little expat contacts...but I'm sure there are not too many people around Haiphong. | Hope this help, Peter Jayroc122 Josh Bradley Post Count: 3 Msg: #7 28 weeks ago, June 18th 2009 | Im staying in Shenzhen located in the Guangdong region. Its a fast growing city so I dont expect anything to be too hard to find. Not too keen on the marmite myself but I'll try evreything once :-). | Thanks Guys...peace x Rat on the Road Kris and Kate Post Count: 449 Msg: #8 28 weeks ago, June 19th 2009 | Peter, | There are quite a few expats in Haiphong - teachers, shipping folk and people who work in fashion. But none of them can help with the marmite. Western Canned Foods on Ba Trieu in Hanoi has the NZ kind and Vegemite, but not the UK type. I don't know if it's the same, I'm guessing not, and its expensive for it to be the wrong thing. Someone once told me that Vegemite was the same. How wrong they were! Vegemite tastes like vomit. Someone is bringing me over some from the UK soon! Kate PA Leslie Pierre-Alexandre Post Count: 881 Msg: #9 27 weeks ago, June 21st 2009 | Hi kate... | Oups, I've lived in Asia for way too long...marmite and vegemite...all the same for me...and I have to deeply apologies for it....call the ambassador...I'm sure he can get that to you for national security reasons (that's a joke obviously). Don't worry, having lived all over the place, I'm use to have "funny food" in my luggage, as you can find some stuff in one place, and some in another. If you ever go to Saigon on day, let me know in advance...and I'll make sure i try to find a jar for you. Or I don't know if as a moderator we could put a post with the following title ....if anybody come from the UK...could he/she brings some marmite to Haiphong....I'm sure that can be done. Have a great Sunday! Peter Rat on the Road Kris and Kate Post Count: 449 Msg: #10 27 weeks ago, June 21st 2009 | Thanks, but it's ok, someone is bringing some next week! So I will have my marmite fix. You can actually get a lot of international food here. Much more than we could when we lived in Thailand. And really now, the difference between marmite and vegemite is huge!! PA Leslie Pierre-Alexandre Post Count: 881 Msg: #11 15 weeks ago, September 17th 2009 | Guys, just for info, the supermarket next to my flat has Marmite in Bangkok...so whenever you need it, let me know! | Number of Users: 4 | Number of Posts: 11
