I'm planning to travel to BA in the end of October for a 12 days vacation. I'm interested to spend some time in the city (maybe taking tango lessons), but also would love to see some of the Patagonia. Any suggestions on how many days would be enough for BA and where to go to Patagonia in order to be able to do some moderate one day trips and hikes? Do I need to rent a car anywhere? I'd love to see high mountains and glaciers (have hiked in US/Canada glacier parks as well as in Alps and Nepal - would be interesting to compare ...). Tried to read some travel books on Patagonia, but there are so many places that they recommend ... Getting lost ... Is there way to see some wild life on the way (penguins, sea lions etc) or it's completely out of the way?
Thanks,
Yuri

Hola... Que tal? IIve been to Southern paragonia on both sides, Chilean and Argentinian. I would recommend both! This includes visiting, Torres del Paine (Chile), El Calafate (Argentina), and El CHalten (argentina).
In Torres del Painem you can do the FAMOUS ¨W¨ circuit which can take you 5 days to backpack. The views are incredibñe. YOu can see parrots, condors, glaciers(glacier gray), and the famous TORRES. Here you can encounter strong winds...so take a sturdy tent....winds can get up to 110kph.....and rememner that you can drink the water from the streams : P

In El calafate...you can take a tour to visit the famous PERITO MORENO glaciar...or you can get a group and rent a car to go into the park...if you do, u can get into the park before 8am and not pay entrance fee. If you need a hostal stay in I KEU KEN...its insanely awesome and the owner, MARTIN and his girlfriend are real down to earth people! Near the city you can do several hikes to cerro calafate...ask martin from the hostal how to access the cerro. Note: there are hundreds of street dogs, and they will follow you EVERYWHERE! Be patient, jaja.

EL CHALTEN: by far my favorite! the lil town is SURROUNDED by awesome mountains. If you get to see FITZ ROY. Here you can see cool glaciars as well. I spent 6 days here bc we had horrible weather and we were waiting for it to get better. But i would have loved to stay many more days. There are a lot of day hikes, even incredible rocjk climbing!!!!!!

I heard BARILOCHE (argentina) was amazing bur didnt get a chance to go there. Maybe you can.

WElll, the best of luck deciding!

Hello,

I've been living and travelling around Argentina for a while now and I would recommend Bariloche AND El Calafate, but if you have to choose then go for El Calafate, the scenery is unbelievable, its the most impressive landscape ive ever seen! Also, this time of year is a good time to go, there are lots of good deals on flights and hotels... I went through a travel agent called <snip> which I would really recommend: helpful, reliable, online chat and booking and speak lots of languages!

Have a good trip! and let me know if you have any more questions...
