have chosen a hotel near Kraton, wondering if this is a good area of the city? Safety concerns?

I am planning to stay at the Hotel Tulips near Kraton in Yogyakarta. I know it's a 20 minute walk from Malioboro, so I am wondering, are there restaurants and shops near Kraton palace? Or would it be better to stay in one of the more touristy neighborhoods like Prawirotaman? (How close are Prawirotaman and Kraton?) I will be spending one day by myself (young female) are there any safety concerns in any particular neighborhoods?
Does anyone have any suggestions of hotels under $30 USD with pools?

Not a specialist of the place. You can get some very nice luxury at the Grand Mercure, but it's around 45usd a night minimum...but should be pretty nice...hope this help

You could stay at Mutiara Hotel Malioboro cost around US$ 35 but I will inform you the right Value that you have to pay including tax and service but for hotel without pool you can get in US$ 30/ room / night at blue sphir hotel
