Two stand out the most to me:
1. Israel to Jordan at Sheikh Hussein Bridge. I found the Israeli side to be quite the organized operation. Clean-cut soldiers, with the latest security equipment in well designed and furnished buildings. The Jordanian side, however, was everything that Israel was not: run-down, destitute, and barren.
2. San Diego to Tijuana. I first crossed into Mexico when I was still very young and up until that point had not seen poverty, so it left a lasting impression on me.

Norway to Russia, up in the far north at Grense Jakobselv. From one of the world's richest nations to grey Soviet-era concrete blocks and begging pensioners.
Back in 1992 in Malawi there was a road that ran along the border with Mozambique between Dedza and Ntcheu. On the Malawi side were shops, crowds in brightly-coloured clothing and general bustle. On the other side of the road in Mozambique there was not a soul around, the buildings were pockmarked with bulletholes and everything was destroyed. Reply to this
