We will need direct transportation from Sheraton Golf Parco de' Medici Hotel & Resort, Roma (address is Viale Salvatore Rebecchini, 39 Rome, Italy 0014) to the Port of Civitavecchia, as well as from the Port to the Rome International Airport on a different day; we have luggage. I'm having trouble finding a way of transportationl, as I've heard taxis are ridiculously expensive, costing hundreds of Euros for a one way trip. Are there other methods of transportation, taking into consideration that we have luggage? Thanks! ~Ling [Edited: 00:02 - LingFeng ] Mell Mell Post Count: 14680 Msg: #2 34 weeks ago, April 24th 2009 | Hello Ling | I think hundreds of Euros may be an exaggeration. There is however the possibility that you could encounter a taxi driver who is dishonest and will overcharge you because you are a foreigner who may not be familiar with the prices. I would ask your hotel how much you can expect to pay for various taxi rides. Then you can ask the driver approximately how much it will cost before getting in the taxi. If (s)he wont give a price estimate then take a different taxi. Public transport is quite good in Rome. How much luggage do you have anyway? You surely dont have more than you can carry if you took it on a plane so you could possibly take it on public transport. There are 2 airports in Rome. One has a train connection to the city. Just go out of the airport and cross the street to the train station. The other airport is conected to the city via a bus. The local busses are the most economical so look for those if you want. Both airports will have shuttle busses to take tourists into the city. You could ask them if they pass your hotel. I have travelled many times with lugagges, but notice that I am young man and luggage was backpack. Some useful information: you may catch a train to Civitavecchia from ROME TERMINI STATION, or OSTIENSE STATION. To have real information about urban transportation in Rome, visit the official website of the ATAC ROMA, the company which manages metros, buses, metro-trains, trams. Trains runs often, and takes about 1 hr. Once at the CIVITAVECCHIA train station, ask for a free bus NAVETA to the port, but notice that it doesn't runs some holidays and until soon in the evening. There are also free buses NAVETA from the door of the port until the ships. If you get well informed and lucky, you could take the bus from the train station until the door of your ship. Try calling 060606, free information number of Rome's goverment. For International Airport Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci,<snip>Direct trains runs every 15 / 20 minutes to / from the airport. Get to the main railway station ROMA TERMINI, look up for AIR TERMINAL and that's all. The train will carry you until the airport, as there is a train station inside the airport, with tapisrolant and lugagge facilities. For Civitavecchia transportation, try visiting this website, it was very helpful for me (italian babelfish traslator required): Civitavecchia web portal Hope this can be useful.<snip> [Edited: 12:59 - Mell ] jet92037 Jeanette Ding Post Count: 5 Msg: #4 17 weeks ago, August 21st 2009 | If you are flying in/out of Rome, check out http://www.airportshuttle.it/ - they have the best rates for door to door airport shuttle service and is often times cheaper than the cost of cab + train and less of a hassle if you have luggage (which of course you will!). You can book online or just call them a day or two ahead of time. | Number of Users: 4 | Number of Posts: 4 | ||||||||||||
