I'm going there in the middle of next month, entering via Turkey and leaving towards Greece. What do you think is a good daily survival budget? I'd imagine Bulgaria will be slightly cheaper than Turkey, and I'm imagining about 25-30 euros a day in Turkey, in hostels and including buses.

Anthony,

I'm not sure where I was, but I was talking to a business man on my travels... he'd just left Bulgaria and had so many good things to say about the place, and said how amazingly cheap it was to eat there. He said he took some associates out for dinner. 4 of them had a 3 or 4 course meal to the tune of ummm... it was either 20 Euros or 20 Dollars... can't remember. Either way, it was cheap. Also, if Ali catches your post, he might have some input. I think he briefly hit up Bulgaria, although I think he spent more time in Romania on skiing trips and such.

Funnily enough, looking at the last post from Bulgaria in the blogs says virtually the same thing, but for 25 GBP. Take a quick look... http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Bulgaria/

Yeah, Bulgaria is very cheap, but you have to be smart, 'cause taxi drivers (specially), waiters, anyone could rip you off ....
Bulgaria is fast growing tourist destination and for the local you are nothing, but "walking wallets":))

Recommended sites for travel and accommodation:

A couple of advises:
- always ask how much before you get it!
- always double-check your bills and if there is something not clear for you, ask what is it!
- don't let the gipsy come close to you - they are very fast with the hands pickpocking!
- if you stay on the first floor always lock the doors and the windows!
- never, ever change money on the street!

"Must see" in Bulgaria:
- Old Nessebur
- The Romanian Queen castle and the Botanical garden in Balchik
- The Thracian tomb in Sveshtari
- Bozhentzi village
- Troyan Monastery
and of course Varna - the summer capital of Bulgaria:))

See ya guys!
