I did the Oz Experience (Cobber Pass) bus over Christmas 2008/2009 from Cairns to Sydney and had an amazing time! The driver, Uncle Buck was incredible - really knowledgeable and very, very helpful. He booked us accommodation on the bus, gave details about the areas and towns we were traveling through and played games so everyone got to know each other. It was a really fun experience with an emphasis on participation and making friends. There was no obligation to participate in the ice breaking games but everyone joined in.

I read a few reviesw on this forum before booking it and the girl 'Kdk' who had a bad time obviously should never have gone to Oz backpacking. The whole term backpacking is about roughing it a bit, meeting people and having fun!

I could not recommend the bus highly enough for people traveling by themselves, like me as it's a great way to meet people. I traveled on the Premier bus line once when I was in Oz and it was dull, boring and full of people who just wanted to sleep.

Yes, the Oz Ex may not be for everyone, it does not run every day, but if you schedule your buses correctly then it makes little difference. I did Cairns to Sydney in 12 days - which did mean traveling during the day and stopping off at a different place each night but this was my choice to do this and it worked out perfectly for me.

During the bus journeys there were lots of stops for breaks, breakfast lunch etc and Uncle Buck made the experience unforgettable. Yes the radio took a bit of a bashing to work and we had to get a replacement tyre on the way down but that's what backpacking is all about.

The Crock farm only cost $14 dollars if I remember, and although it is optional, what’s the point of going to Oz backpacking if you are not going to get involved in the activities? There is no obligation, if you don’t want to do something you don’t have to - the choice is yours! Lawn bowls was a brilliant laugh, the cattle farm was excellent and surf camp was great fun too! I and everyone else on my bus had a fantastic time and we can say we really did have an Oz Experience. If I wanted to travel in a bit more comfort, not have any fun or meet anyone I would have booked the greyhound. I would not have any hesitations whatsoever recommending the Oz Ex bus and especially our driver Uncle Buck!!

I am seriously considering doing the knobs and bells east circle trip which does the whole of the east coast the round going from sydney-brisbane-cairns-slice springs-uluru-adelaide-melbourne-canberra. i am planning on going in january or february time.

I am 18 and travelling on my own which is why i like the sound of oz experience because it sounds like its a good way to meet people so i dont have to worry about not knowing anyone. i was wondering if you knew the ideal amount of time to spend on the journey. I am planning on going for around 5-6 months in total but i dont know if thats too long and if il get bored after a certain amount of time at a place.

If you have any advice on the ideal amount of time i would be greatful for any advice. cheers
