Im from Perth, Australia and myself, my husband and our 8 year old daughter are headding to malaysia on easter monday for 10 days.
None of us have ever been and i am struggling with our itinery as there is so so so much to do and so little time.
I have however been to singapore before, but my family havent, and id love to spend at least 3 of the 10 days there, doing morning zoo, jurgong, night safari, sentosa, and china town/little india.
for the other 7 days im stuck!!
i really want to go to both Genting highlands and Afamosa, would love to give my daughter a culture shock of some poverty stricken areas so she can have more respect for what she has at home.
I myself LOVE snorkelling, but i dont know that we will have enough time in our trip.
Im also Budgeting for some serious shopping! (heading over with only hand luggage, want to bring suitcases home)
If someone could please maybe suggest an Itinery or point me in the right direction of where to book and pay for things (id much rather have everything booked; hotels, theme park tickets, tours as i like to be organised and then i know that the money i take is just for spending!)
we fly into KL on 13th April late evening, and back to oz on 23rd late evening.
Ive also read up on Redang, and i so so so want to go there, but i dont want to spend too much time in the air, as thats using valuable sightseeing time.

sorry for the long winded post, but i have been googling for weeks, and am no closer to having an Itinery!!

Since your 1st landing place is KL, and you have only 7 days to fit in, i would suggest Lankawi island for retreat and snorkelling. since it is a duty free island, you can do a little bit shopping there. You can spend about 2 night there and fly back KL, and spend the rest of days in KL.
In KL, you can do a lot of shopping there, if you like to find hand luggage, try MidValley shopping mall, you can also have a lot of nice food there.
Try also visit KL Twin Tower (KLCC) 2nd higher building in the world, Visit KL china Town for very very cheap T Shirt, hand bag, watches and chinese foods.
Try KL central market, you can find a lot of local handmade handicraft and artwork.

If you like wildlife, and eco-tourism, i would suggest you to visit Sabah borneo(Your schedule is very very tight, may be your next visit), you can find a lot information about borneo Sabah on this site <snip>

If you would like to venture slightly further from Kuala Lumpur, I suggest you visit the elephant sanctuary at Kuala Gandah. It is a day trip. Your kids would enjoy this as it involves activities with the elephants.. feeding, riding and playing with the elephants in the nearby river.

There is also a deer park nearby which you could include when you visit the elephants. I have been there
and found it very interesting and fun.

You probably have to hire a van with driver / taxi to go there. It is about 2 hours away from KL. <snip>

Hi Lona,

KL is a great "urban jungle" for shopping and sight seeing, of course. You can also experience nature up north or down south of the Peninsular as well as it's traditional Malay culture. If time permits, head on over to Sabah / Sarawak, where adventure, nature, and cultures are abundant in this state.

Which ever your choices may be, I'm sure you'll have a great time in Malaysia. Have a great time!

Hello Lona;

Let's see what we have here:

3 days for Singapore.
1 day for Genting Highlands.
1 day for Melacca (Portugees town and A'Famosa).

So, you got another 5 days to go !!

I would suggest 3 days in Tioman Island for snorkelling. Around 3 hours from Singapore to Mersing, then 1&half hour by ferry.

Now 2 more days you can stays in KL, visit the KL Twin Tower, KL Tower, China Town and do your shopping.

***If you will use flights, then you can go to Redang Island instead of Tioman. Both are lovely, Redang more quite. Tioman is a big island and you can see more locals, waterfall, jungles.

***Well, I dont advise you to fly to singapre from KL. It will cost you more. The bus ride from KL to Singapore is around 4 hours, and the cost if iam not mistaken around 60 RM (Per Person) for a big nice bus. (You can find for 35 RM also).

***For Genting Highlands I think 1 night is enough if you will leave KL early in the morning, have a full day and spend a night.

** You can visit Genting Highlands first, Go to Melacca, then head to Singapore, and from there to Tioman..... or

**Head to Singapore first, go to the Island, Back to KL, Visit Melacca, then Genting.

just an ideas, hope it will be helpful for you, enjoy your travelling :)
