Do I need to book in advance for pampas tour from Rurrenabaque?

My bro & I will be arriving in Rurre around mid-july, which I would imagine is high-tourist season probably. Does anyone know if it's possible to just book a 3 or 4 day pampas tour (which includes accom/food/wildlife spotting etc) when we get there, or is it advisable to book these well in advance?
Do these get booked out early during high season?
Any tour recommendations would be appreciated :)
also, we'll be arriving in La Paz from Cuzco (by bus) is it possible to just book a local flight La Paz - Rurre when we get there, or again, is this something we should book in advance?

You can book that when you land. There are dozens of companies all trying to book you if you walk down the main street in Rurre, all ready to take you that very day. That said, I went in November. It was in the dry season, which I believe is one of their high seasons, but I don´t know how that compares to mid July. Is that the rain season or not?
Flights, again, we booked the day of without any problem. The one thing to note, is that it is a grass run way in Rurre, and it rains (which it does often in a rain forrest) the planes don´t fly. In other words, you can get stuck there for several days. Your other option is to take the most terrifying bus ride ever down the most dangerous road in the world. I went with the flight on the way back as my nerves were shot after the ride down. Reply to this

hey thanks for the info, july is mid dry-season so i would imagine high-tourist season.
unfortunately due to our time constraints we'll have to try & fly to rurre....so grass runway or terrifying bus ride? well i've been keen on seeing the pampas for a long time, so either route we take i'll be taking a sedative for the trip.
did you do a pampas tour? can i ask which company you used?
cheers

I think it was Inca Tours or something about an Inca. I can´t remember, sorry. I know they had their own cabin, instead of renting rooms at one, and their office was on a corner. It was bood, but nothing sensational. To my understanding, they are all pretty much the exact same.
And yeah, if you are doing that bus ride, get some Valium in La Paz before you go. The flight is beautiful, and ridiculous, as when you are coming back from Rurre you reach your max altitude and then land a few minutes later; twenty minutes straight up and two minutes to land. Have fun! Reply to this

Approx. how much are flights to and from Rurrenabaque? I've read in a few blogs that the bus ride isn't much fun! Reply to this

I think it was about $70 U.S. one way, but I can´t remember that may have been both ways. I think the bus was $25. Again, I could be way off, you would be better of googling that one. Reply to this
