Hi,

I am looking to travel in July or August from Mumbai to Kathmandu by land. Then I want to take the mandatory tour from Kathmandu to Lhasa. I understand that a regular 3 month chinese tourist visa will not be acceptable if you enter China via this route. So you can only obtain a special tourist visa from Kathmandu which is valid for much less than 3 months. I have heard 15 days and 28 days. Does anyone know if a 28 day Chinese tourist visa from Kathmandu is really possible? (without taking a 28 day tour)

Anyway, I want to hop on one of the daily trains from Lhasa to Beijing after that, which takes 3 days, WITHOUT overstaying my visa. Is this possible? i.e. Will I have enough time left on my tourist visa to get to Beijing, allowing for a day or two for just in case delays? From Beijing I want to catch a ferry to Osaka/Kobe.

Any insight at all on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Especially if someone has done just this and can testify to its possibility. Or how to get out of the tour sooner so as to make sure my visa doesn't run out before I get on the ferry to Japan.

Thank you in advance!

Sorry this isn't any help, I didn't want to start a new thread but also need clarification on this.

I'm hoping to do Nepal - Tibet - Chengdu - Kunming, with a few stops on the way.
Basically, I know I need a special permit for Tibet(TTP), but everybody says that if you get a TTP, then if you have an existing China visa, it gets cancelled.

So how did you manage to arrange permission to carry on to Chengdu and Kunming? Does the Tibet Travel permit allows you to travel in the rest of China for the remainder of the TTP? Or do I need to get a New China visa in Lhasa or something?

I really hope you people can clear this up for me.

Big thanks in advance,

John

P.S. sorry to hijack your thread Usagi25
