Im heading back to Vietnam in february. Most of my stay will be again in Saigon. Only there for 2 weeks this time... Me and my fiance were thinking of heading to Mui Ne... Wondering if anyone out there can share their thoughts and experiences here.. Whats it like? Relaxed? Party town? Clean (if anyone has swum in Vung Tau they'll know what I mean lol) ... Cheap? Worth going to? Much to see?

Thanks

Hi

I dont know what Mui Ne is like yet. I speant most of my last trip in District 1 HCMC, which is worth checking out. Lots of partying etc there. Visited the Mekong and Ben Tre.. Ben Tre is nice, but not alot to do, but my inlaws are there so knew some locals. Vung Tau is a cool little beach town u can get to by boat from HCMC - it takes about 2 hours. Only thing there is the water is quite dirty to swim in, lots of rubbish etc.. Nha Trang is worth going to.. Fun night life, beautiful beach and Vin Pearl fun park which i is very cool. Da Lat is nice. In the mountains, cheaper than HCMC, more laid back. Good food, and lots of sights. Best thing I found is buy a map from the hotel u stay at and then rent a motor bike. U can probably see all the sights in a day or 2. Nice for couples. Can get cheep bus tickets to Nha Trang for about 400,000vnd directly from the bus company there, rather than going through a travel agent. Get talking to locals and make some friends if u can, the Vietnamese are very keen to give u tips on saving money and point u in the right direction.. (as long as u meet some genuine people, not people trying to sell u stuff or scam money off u lol). U can check out my old blogs if u like, and when I do check out Mui Ne ill right another one :o)

Hi there

Mui Ne is relaxed, with very few tourists, the sand dunes are amazing. and the seafood restaurants along the beach are great. You can hire a moped for $5 USD a day and see the whole area easily within 6 hours. Just a relaxing non invasive beach town that I highly recommend to visit. (by the way- there's not much to see but just fantastically relaxing)

Hope you get a chance to go!

😊

Mui Ne is chilled but there's npothing to do compared with Nha TRang apart from kitesurfing.
Be careful which kitesurfing or windsurfing company you pick. They have pricefixed all the prices on the beach and most instructors are not up to EEeuropean standard -they give off the impression that they are lapping up the lifestyle off your dollars at $50 an hour. Reply to this

Mui Ne is a beautiful beach... We escaped the resorts and the tourist area, and stayed in a hotel on the beach where there were only locals.. cant remember the name sorry. Fresh seafood is cooked and sold right on the beach, but u might want to swim down the other end as there is a lot of rubbish on the beach and the shellow water from them. I prefer Nha Trang to Mui Ne.. Especially the islands around Nha Trang, great for snorkeling.. Rent a motorbike if u can and get a map.. Some cool sites to see, great town, and the food is beautiful! As long as u dont eat in the restaurants designed for western tourists to eat at.. Look for where the Vietnamese are eating... and something I found is that if the place has no customers theres a reason why. Went to a place to eat Pho and was just 2 minute noodles in hot water with everything else thrown in.. the chicken was tough as rubber. Reply to this

Travel Tip Tipping is not required in Vietnam. In places like Sailing Club Mui Ne and Sailing Club Nha Trang, and Sailing Saigon the staff has to hand all the tips to the manager. If you tip the staff in that establishment they may not receive it. Tipping sets a bad precedent and provides bad service for those who don’t want to tip. If you go to Sailing Club or Louisianne or similar tourist establishments they are charging the equivalent of a local’s wages for one day if you order 2 juices for example. They are more than rewarded. Why feed their greed with a tip as well!

Dear Swellsy - I've been to Mui Ne in Nov 2007, and I stayed at The Coco Beach Resort (www.cocobeach.net ). Of course it does depends on what you want, but I found this place simply fantastic, right on the beach, completely relaxed, shared library if you wish, great beach especially n the morning when you have vietnamese fishing boats returning with their catch...I loved it a lot, just a suggestion! Don't bother with kitesurfing, it is a rip off at $50 an hour for Vietnam prices.
Do it in Philippines or back home. Reply to this

qwerty is right! $50 is equivalent to a months wages for locals.
To make it relevant to your country say your country's average monthy income is $2,500 per month. That is equivalent to paying $2,500 for kitesurfing in your own country. Would you spend that?
Why feed and encourage the rip off greed that goes on in countries like Vietnam? Reply to this

Of course, the instructors are mainly westerners. But, yeah, US$50 an hour is too much. You can get kitesurfing lessons cheaper in Australia even (at least at the current exchange rate).

Mui Ne is a nice place - was there last month. Stayed at , about 5 hotels down from Jibes: US$30 a night for a beachfront bungalow. Not a whole lot to do there, but it's pretty, relaxing and there was a decent beach with (slightly) better surf up past the fishing village (about 10km from the main area).
