Have you been on a Safari in Africa? If so, where? Which animals did you see? Did you photograph them? If so, post the photos on this thread.

Popular Kenya animals that people see on a Kenya safari include the big five ( Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino) and over 30 other different species. The list is too long to diplay here but I found this link which lists most of them.

I've only been to Tanzania, so perhaps there are a few differences across the border in Kenya.

big 5 (mentioned above), hippos, cheetahs, wildebeest, gazelles, dik-diks, various birds, giraffes, baboons, hyenas, ostrich...the list goes on for quite a while.

Feel free to see some of what I encountered.

We visited the Masai Mara in Kenya this past December and listed all the animals we saw on our blog, along with posting many photos too! Our travelblog site is: www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/pnltravels
The entry is titled "The Magnificent Masai Mara".
We didn't see Rhino in the Masai Mara, but we did see white Rhino at Lake Nakuru - photos under the entry "Kenya - Animals, Animals, Animals". Reply to this

I didnt go on a safari in Africa, but I did see baboons on the side of the road and flamingos in the distance from the bus windows in Kenya. Somebody told me there had been zebras on that road a few days ago, so I gazed hopefully out the window for the whole bus journey, but no zebras appeared. Reply to this

I imagine you will see mostly the same kind of animals I saw in Namibia. I saw plenty of Cheetah, Lion, Leopard, Hippo, Elephant and Buffalo quite close up.A very humbling experience! Have fun....

We did a 9 day safari in Kenya, and saw all the major animals!! Many lions, zebra, elephants, buffalo, hippos and even a cheetah with her cub. We also saw gazelle, wart hogs, giraffes, rhinos, flamingos, dik-diks, baboons, hyenas, vultures and a bunch of other animals/birds that I can't remember.

Lake Nakuru was actually a big disappointment though ... we had the hopes of seeing a lake covered in pink (from the flamingos) and it wasn't at all like you see on the discovery channel!! We found the Samburu game reserve the best in terms of it being peaceful and quiet, but lions were hard to find. Masai Mara was the the best for lions and such, but we were there in "off season" and there were still sooo many other vehicles. It was incredibly frustrating to see drivers and safari goers chasing the animals and crowding around and going off road. If you end up going on safari, keep your driver accountable!! It bothered us so much that we were all there to see the animals, but that so many were reckless in their persuit of the perfect picture!
