We're considering visiting San Juan del Sur the second week of January, bringing our CR- licensed car (all paperwork in order) visiting Maderas, Majugal, etc.
We've been to San Juan many times and really love it, but... very concerned after reading the current report from the US Embassy website.
Really appreciate up to the minute info for anyone actually living in San Juan. Are the beaches safe to visit during the day? Paid parking lots still available at the CR border if we want to walk across (as we usually do) ?
Transitos stopping foreign-licensed vehicles on the highway, demanding bribes, seizing documents?
Lived in CR for a number of years, so we're somewhat familiar with Central America, but concerned about current climate.
Aware of political unrest in Managua and Leon, but has it now spread to San Juan?
Thanks for any info on the current situation.
Reply to this How was San Juan del Sur? My girlfriend and I are planning to go in May and we're wondering about safety in San Juan.
Reply to this SJDS is totally safe- probably the safest city in Nicaragua... but just don't be stupid... Managua is where you wanna be careful...
Reply to this hey...driving here and security around the place is super safe.....i wouldn't recomend it, but i've even left my camera on the beach at Maderas before and gone surfing and it was still there!!! haa haa
