Anyone spent NYE in Hanoi?
Wondering whether Phangan will be better if I can be bothered to stay in the South on beaches doing nothing for 10 days.

If you like warm weather go to the beach in Thailand. If you want slightly cold go to Hanoi. Night life in Hanoi is far less interesting than south of Thailand, I think.

Unstable politics is not good for tourists. I think you should spend your time in Vietnam!

Why? The political situation re:airport & protesters in Thailand doesn't make much of a difference to long term travellers, only the people who cancelled their entire 2 to 3 week holidays are now not in Thailand I think :)
My worry is that Vietnam will be too quiet for NYE, particularly Hanoi...

Yes, that's right, but no one can ensure that the political situation will not happen again at any time! Maybe I'm a perfectionist!
You shouldn't be worry about one quite NYE in Hanoi because that's the way Hanoi is..!
Hanoi's always smooth, quite and peaceful. If you need a burning NYE, Thailand is the more appropriate destination I think.!

True.
Quiet is not so much of an issue, just as long as there are some back[packers about to have some beers with. I suspect they'll all be in Thailand :)

Vietnam is your best choice. Sapa & Halong Bay is the wonerful destinations , I came. Everything is unforgetbale!!!You should choose high service crown. Thailand is old destination now.

Hope you have good time
