Trying to get from the Iguazu falls to La Paz

Hi,

Looking for tips on how to get from the falls to La Paz, Bolivia! Budget is tight and I would preferably like to stop off at Sucre along the way. At the moment I'm unsure of whether to go through Paraguay by bus and then up to La Paz, or back down to Argentina and again up through Bolivia. Or if getting the bus such a massive distance is a ridiculous idea, whether i should just fly.

If anyone has done this route or knows of it any tips would be helpful!

Thanks

Depends how long you have! Either way the journey is a long one - if it's part of a big trip - you have a couple of routes.

Via Brazil: Igauzu -> Campo Grande (Brazil) that was a 24hr+ ride went the other way -> Corumba (Bolivia) Train to Santa Cruz -> La Paz

Or through Paraguay as you mention; don't have any experience here - just went into Cidad del Este and back out.

Or back down to BA (16hrs) -> Salta (I think another 16hr) -> Tupiza (bolivia) -> La Paz

Buses are notoriously unreliable in Bolivia - constantly under threat of the road block protests.

Hope that helps

Thanks, that's great.

I think I will have at least 3 or 4 days to get to La Paz from Iguazu, it's part of a big trip - and don't mind long journeys too much.
Considering road blocks I think a route with trains may be best...

If you only have a few days - and no leeway - flying might be a better option. BA to LaPaz - ~$700 - pricey but you'll get there.

There are some amazing things to see on either route - do you not have the choice to extend it out to a week or two? and break up those bus journeys with more natural wonders?
