My main concern is: what weather type I should get it. a) should it be a 35+ (typical 3 season bag) b) or 30+ The bags i've been looking at are: http://www.rei.com/product/746385 http://www.rei.com/product/762031 I'll be hopefully doing a lot hiking like in patagonia, ect. but visiting the jungles as well. pura Vida, C Ali Ali Watters Post Count: 3913 Msg: #2 52 weeks ago, December 17th 2008 | Hi Claudia - everything I've read on sleeping bag ratings has worried me, no independent tests, manufacturers choose their own rating, peoples perception of comfort can vary wildly. So tough question! | In the jungles - you won't need a sleeping bag - a sleeping sheet will be all that you need - if that. (You might need a mosquito net though!) But - down in Patagonia - and in the highlands a good sleeping bag is something you'll use over and over - though some hostels ban them to stop bed bugs spreading. If you're hiking - you will probably be renting tents, stoves etc already - sleeping bags are also available. The overall size of the bag also has an influence - a slim cut (tight!) bag will be warmer for it's weight. Compromise - go for the warmest lightest you can afford - if it's too warm you can always open up the bag - but too cold is harder to cope with. Good luck!
