Hi,

Just wondered if anyone can help..

We have been advised to take our own needles with us travelling, just in case of any medical emergency and wondered if we would risk geeting questioned/arrested by the border crossing/airport entry staff at all??

(They are packed with our medical stuff)

We visits SE Asia, Indonesia, Aus, and India..

Cheers for any help

It shouldn't be a problem. I have diabetes and carry insulin needles on airplanes all the time and have never had an issue (including in mainland China). To be safe I also carry a doctor's note with me explaining my situation (which I also had translated into Chinese) but I've never needed to use it in all the years I have been travelling. The worst thing that has ever happened is that the security person will ask to look at the needles, but when I tell them it's for insulin they leave it alone.

If you're in some really remote places and the security staff haven't been adequately trained, I think the worst that would happen is that the needles would be confiscated. But with the itinerary you have above I don't think anyone would give you problems. Security staff see dozens of diabetics go through each day so they're used to it.

Hello PJ 😊

People often carry needles when they are going to countries where the hospitals may not have enough medical supplies, in case they need to be injected with something. Be sure to put them in your checked in luggage. I dont see why you would be arrested for this. You might be questioned but I dont see that it would go any further than a couple of questions about what they are for.

I always carry around needles and more... There are special kits you can buy, with needles in it, and even tubes and bags for drips. They mostly come with a piece of paper stating the reason for them. Anyway I have never been questioned. I don't know how it is if you carry around loose needles in your bag. Probably not a problem. I would however recommend these kits as you get the whole shebang in one go. Reply to this
