Muno Sally Evers & Nick Griffith Post Count: 14 Msg: #1 438 days ago, September 9th 2008 | We getting conflicting information from embassy, airline, agents etc about visa requirements. Normally wouldn't bother about this but as we are now working it is important we get it right so if anyone has been recently and can advise that would be great. | We fly London to Dar Es Salaam (stopping to get a connection in Nairobi) - we are assuming we can get the required Tanzanian visa on arrival in Dar and do not need anything for Kenya? We fly back from Kenya and will be crossing overland from Tanzania - can we get visa issued at the border? At the moment due to time and stories of confusion at embassies we are planning on getting visas on arrival. Any comments welcomed. Thanks PA Leslie Pierre-Alexandre Post Count: 864 Msg: #2 437 days ago, September 10th 2008 | To my knowledge, you can get visa on arrival in Tanzania...it takes just 2 minutes. Make sure you have USD with you. Was there back in July, and it was the same amount in usd or euro....that's a 30% surcharge in euro! | Not sure for Kenya, but would guess it should be the same at the border. I hold a belgium passport for your reference. Have fun! So if you arrive in Tanzania, you can cross into Kenya and not pay any more for a visa when you return to Tanzania. I crossed from Kenya to Tanzania by land and there was no problems getting a visa at the border. The same applied for the reverse trip as well (this occurred in May-June of this year). East Africa is a superb part of the world - you will have a great time! They charge the same for East Africans. The Chinese charge higher as well for the same reason. At least you can get East African visa at the border quite easily. It takes months to arrange for American/EU visas for East Africans regardless of financial means. They need to pay their visa fee in advance and make an appointment to see a visa officer through the internet, who might give or refuse a visa and they need to present dozen of documents. We should be lucky we can travel so easily to their countries regardless of our financial standing at home. I can't really complain when travelling because I know how it feels to be an African passport holder applying for a western visa, since i was once myself. I tell you, it is a real pain to travel as an African, you are always assumed to be a would-be refugee every port you arrive. You have to pass a long interview with an immigration officer every time you cross a border in the west. The Travel Camel Shane Dallas Post Count: 1024 Msg: #7 66 days ago, September 16th 2009 | I understand your point Max, I have friends of mine who were born in Kenya (and thus have a Kenyan passport) and it is a real pain for them to go to many places - and not only 'western' countries but in Asia and the Middle East as well. As an example, to get to Australia requires them to front to Nairobi in person, pay a non-refundable visa fee and the rest of the overly-protective measures we seem to impose on people who are not from Europe, North America, New Zealand or the UK. | I am very thankful that I have a Australian passport as it does make it easy for me to visit many places, but I know that many other people do not share this freedom or ease of travel.
