We are going to Asia, North America and Europe for a total of 6 months travelling what insurance would you recommend??
How extensive does it realistically need to be?
any advice greatly appreciated.
Reply to this You definitely
must get health/medical/accident insurance, especially for North America.
Depending on how you are travelling, travel insurance may not be worth it. I have found that most of the travel events which are likely to happen to me aren't covered by travel insurance or won't really cause me too much grief if they do happen. On the other hand, having lap-top or camera stolen could be costly to replace.
Insuring your luggage/clothes/personal items is a waste of money as most insurance policies won't pay up. They always blame it on the airline/hotel/bus company, etc., and tell you to claim from them.
Tour cancellation by your travel agent/ missing a flight due to delay of a connecting flight/cancellation due to weather, etc. are usually excluded or so hedged around with conditions that the policy mostly won't cover these events.
Read the fine print carefully before you part with your money.
Reply to this Thanks for your advie, i will definately look into it carefully.
Reply to this Hi Rebecca,
I am not sure if i can put the names of actual travel insurance companies on here, but feel free to send me a message and i can give you the names of a few companies that are well-respected in the travel industry!
Reply to this Or you might want to try a comparison site - artog.com.au which is btw, a good tool!
Reply to this If you decide on Medical only, the only place I could find which did this is Zuji.com.au. I have just bought 6 weeks cover through China/Russia/Europe for 2 adults for $AU168 (about 80 pounds/$US130)
