Hi Atron,
It depends on how long you want to stay in each city. Looks like you have 14 cities (NY twice so counted it as one) so that is about 2 days in each city plus a few extra days for travel in between. I am in Philly and i think you could easily spend two to three days here. NY I'd say would take at least 2-3 days as well and you could easily do 2-3 in Chicago. You can drive between NY, Philly and DC (NYC - Philly in under 2 hours, philly to DC in about 3). You can also take the train between these three. So that will save a little bit of time. If you have to cut out one city, i would probably say Detroit. Not that there aren't things to see there, but the others are certainly bigger cities and by cutting out detroit you could spend a little more time in some others. Grand Canyon to Last Vegas is also driveable so that could help as well.

Of the cities i would not miss on there: NYC, Philly (I have a soft spot for it, it's my home), Chicago, New Orleans. i haven't been to the Grand Canyon or SF but hear they are wonderful as well. I am not a huge fan of vegas, but i think it's something for people coming to the US to see. I have never been to SLC, Dallas and haven't spent much time in Denver so I can't really make a judgement on them.

I hope this helps!

Hi Atron,
I LOVED Lyon! I had a conference there and had no idea of what it would be like but i just loved it! I even wrote an article about it in the newsletter that I produce for my company.

The Rocky steps are at the front of our Art Museum in Philly. Also, if you like the movie Ghostbusters, we have the Ghostbusters building here in philly too! I think one day in vegas and grand canyon each will be enough! Are you driving in between? Reply to this

Hey Atron,

Your trip is doable, definitely, but it's going to be very expensive. If that's not an issue for you, then great! But, you'll be spending a lot of time in airports and I know that's not very fun.

Are you visiting friends in all of these places? If not, I would recommend stopping in San Antonio instead of Dallas if you go to Texas. Dallas is nice of course, but if you've only got a couple days in each spot San Antonio is a lot of fun.

I've been to all the cities you've mentioned, and all are nice, but (personally) I would cut off a couple cities so you can spend a little more time in the ones you really really want to see. NYC, DC, SF, Philadelphia, all of these can take many days to see all the cool stuff.

Anyway, good luck on your trip!

Why you say :" But, you'll be spending a lot of time in airports and I know that's not very fun."
I know i can t see everything but like i say before i want to see each cost and i will spend more time in the west.
It s better i think maybe i m wrong.they are more things to see.

Hi Atron,
Both of the coasts are fantastic. I'm from the east coast but have family in the west coast. The great thing about the east is that cities are all relatively close together. you could literally drive between NYC and DC in one day if you needed (I don't recommend it, but I would). I would cut out detroit if you have to. You could probably also cut out atlanta if need be. It's nice but it's not a "must see".

I would strongly suggest that when flying between cities you use Southwest Airlines if you can. They have one way fares that are much less expensive and you can change your ticket without penalty. The downside is that you have to log in 24 hours before your flight and check in online to get a seat assignment. But they do fly to a good number of cities and are cheaper.

I believe Andrew is saying that you'll be spending a lot of time in airports because over here flying can be a little hectic. You are supposed to get to the airport about 2 hours before and then sometimes it takes up to an hour after you land to get off the plane, get your luggage etc. Not always, just sometimes.

Anyway your friend from Dallas can fly to the coast (east or west) and meet you there? that would make it a lot easier and one less flight you'd need to arrange/pay for! Reply to this

I have others question.I know to enter(with a car) some cities like NY you have to pay: peage. but we have to pay to take the Freeway?
Can i find along this freeway some "motel" cheaper than the rest of usa?

Hi Atron,
Oh ok, i'm going to revise my first statement. If you are planning to do it all by car, i don't think 35 days will be enough, at least not to really appreciate what you're seeing and relax at all. That's a ton of driving plus staying in cities. I'd honestly fly between some. As for the tolls on the road, some you have to pay and some you don't. It really depends on where you are at. Sorry I cannot help you out more than that, it just really depends. You can generally find motels along or just off of the highway (you'll see signs). Some areas it's easier to find them than others. One note of advice, if you are driving the whole thing, keep an eye on your gas gauge. There are stretches in the middle of the country where there are not a lot of places to gas up, so if you see a sign that says last exit or last rest stop for the next "so many" miles, take advantage of it!
