Hi Catherine,
You might want to check out the NYCVP, their website is www.nycvp.com/ They have all kinds of information on New York and i'm sure that if you contact them they can set you up with a transportation company. As for Newark, you can take the train - NJ Transit - right from Manhattan's Penn Station into Newark. It takes maybe 20 minutes or so and is probably way more affordable than getting a driver to take you there (plus you won't have to pay bridge tolls and wait in the line at the bridge). Their website is www.njtransit.com You can check out schedules, fares (I believe $4 one way from NYC to Newark), etc. I hope this helps!

Cath,
you're welcome! I live only about an hour and a half or less from NYC so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask me - I'm there all the time! Where are you staying in NYC (what hotel)? Reply to this

thanks for your help. ill tell you the plan!!! my mother and sister are travelling to newark from ireland and i live in yorkshire england (I married a wonderful english man!!!) and i will travel from manchester to newark on the same day which will be january 8th and we will all arrive into newark airport around the same time and meet up. we are staying at the country inn and suites near newark airport in elizabeth (my sister booked it as its near jersey gardens). we came last year and stayed at the holiday inn near the airport which was a nice enough hotel. we went to newport centre mall for a day and we all really enjoyed it but it cost us $100 to get there and $100 to come back plus tips which i though was really expensive!!!! so this time we are looking for cheaper ways of getting around. we would also like to go to macys herald square which we got to last year by getting a train from the airport to penn station newark to penn station new york. it cost us $15 each, each way which i also though was way expensive. thinking about it now i think we bought the wrong type of ticket, do you think ???? in england we think trains are expensive and to go the same distance here would only cost about £5 return so im sure we got the wrong tickets. i have looked into nj transit but to go from the hotel to newport centre mall takes about 2 hours!!!! i find this really strange as its only about 9 miles away, am i doing something wrong when i entre the travel details. i have tried to email them but it says i must phone so i might leave it until we get there as its really expensive to phone from here to ny. do you think its any easier to leave from the airport to go to jersey city ?
sorry to be such a pain,

cath x

Hi Cath,
You are not a pain. It should not take that long, let me look into it. When determining the time from the hotel to Newport Centre Mall, what train stations did you use? I have to say, I'm from south Jersey so not all that familiar with Jersey City, other than it doesn't have the best reputation, even to use Jersey-ites! As for Newark penn station to penn station new york, when i checked the other day it was $4 per person each way (so approx. 2 GBP's?). That is much more reasonable than 5 GBPs each way per person. Let me know how else i can be of help!
