I've been trying to find a chalet on Long Beach for July 22-24 (3 nights/3 ppl), but nowhere seems to do advance bookings. Is the island very crowded on weekdays? We're a little worried about turning up and getting stuck with a place that's either ridiculously overpriced or a dump. Something in between would be nice.

We won't arrive at Kuala Besut until around 10 am on the 22nd, if that makes a difference.

Any recommendations or tips?

Thanks!!

Haiiii curs,,

Perhantian Kecil Island got many guest houses,,, i have been there few years back and i dont remmber much about the names and the prices. But during the time i was there all the guest houses were full, we stayed in a hotel there and if iam not mistaken it cost 160 RM per night.

My advice is, go to perhantian Kecil, and if you didn't find any rooms (which i dont think so you will not find any) then take a water taxi to perhantian Besar. You can do the snorkelling activities from bother islands to same places but Perhantian Kecil is much much much more better to stay there as there is no nice beach in Perhantian Kacil as i remmber.

Perhentian Kecil is nicer & more quiet in terms of " tourists"... There are lot's of people, but you won't notice big crowds, its a very nice & relaxing place. People crowd together during the evenings for dinner in the numerous restaurants on the beach.

Coral bay (Kecil) is very nice, that's where i stayed. We had a bungalow, for like 80 RM per night, and people are very friendly as well. Good beach, good restaurants, loads of diving shops, & you can find beer as well ;-)

Its also only a 10 minute walk to cross to the other side of the island, where you can find more crowd, great beach, & even more restaurants, even on some nights you get dance nights & stuff....

Personally i think the small island (Kecil) is a bit less commercial than the big one (Besut), so its better really.
