Two active senior citizens will have two weeks, from Sept. 26-October 10, 2008 in the general area surrounding Montreal and Quebec City. We'd like to spend some time in the two major cities, but also time in the countryside, perhaps staying several days in an inn by a lake. Any suggestions, particularly about the stay in the countryside, will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi there!

Well you can check out <snip>
But for your weekend out in the countryside it will be perfect timing for the changing of the leaves! You can go to a couple of places. Here they are:

1. Mont Tremblant area - it's a ski resort in winter but there are loads of hikes and lakes to do and visit in the area which is really nice.

2. You can go to the Eastern Townships and find a nice inn there, it's mountains and pleny of lakes. You'll like that too.

I would recommend somewhere to stay but I don't know any. Maybe you can check the websites of Mont Tremblant and Mont Orford out for some accommodation. the links are below:

Hello,

You've posted this a while back so maybe it's too late but I thought I would reply anyway. I lived in QC City and Montreal for over 30 years. I now live in Yukon (where the fall colours are also pretty spectacular, although for a short time only).

I would thus recommend the following:

Around Qc City:

- A trip to L'île d'Orléans, maybe even dinner and a stay at the Canard Huppé. It is only 20 minutes by car from the old town. They have orchards on the island so you could go apple picking for an afternoon. If you keep goind further past the bridge that takes you on the island you will get to Charlevois. It is a beautiful area where the colours are gorgeous. If you like hiking, you could hike for a day on the Sentiers des Caps. From this trail you can see the St-Lawrence River.

There are a few beautiful lodges in Charlevois and the food tends to be excellent. L'Auberge des Falaises could be a nice place but it's a bit of a longer drive.

While in Québec you may want to have breakfast at the Clocher Penché. It is a bit of a local's secret in the lower part of town.

Montreal:

For me Montreal is all about city life. I would go for a long walk on Mount Royal, take walk around in the neighborhoods like the Plateau and Miles End. If you like Greek food, Philinos on Park Av. has great food and great atmosphere. Their marinated octopus is awesome. I would also spend half a day at the Jean-Talon market (especially on the weekend). If you're ice cream fans don't miss the Bilboquet on Bernard street. Even if it is not in season, ask if they have some maple syrup ice cream.

Have a great trip.
