Happy New Year!!! If I could wish one thing for each of you it would be that your year would be filled with joy!! Joy is not confined to situations and circumstances like happiness, but rather previls in all things. Joy comes from God. For some of you it manifests itself best when you are doing the things you love, the things GOD made you to do. It may be riding on a wave in the ocean (jeremy), or dancing on a stage (ashley), or playing baseball.... My prayer is that you all would one day be set free with the ability to be joyful. Psalm 33 is an incredible psalm. I have been mesmorized by it many times in the past, and was drawn to it again recently. Hope you enjoy it!! Psalm 33 1 ... read more

Hey everybody, sorry I haven't written in a while. The internet connection is a little sketchy so I'm just going to give a brief update and then, what you've all been waiting for, pictures! So, in brief, on Christmas I went to Chachimbiro hot springs, but I didn't actually go in. I spent the entire time looking for birds. It was so fun that I decided to switch the focus of my trip. I had thought that I didn't want to spend all my time chasing after birds because I'm going to do that for three months. The next day I went back to Quito and spent the day getting my clothes washed and all that good stuff. The next day I traveled to Mindo, a tiny town that is a birding mecca. I've been here ... read more

Thursday 29th December 2005 So... the boat party. I have to say we were all a little disappointed. We left really late for starters. And then the boat was full of gringos. Drunk gringos by the end of things. We could´ve been in Ibiza or something. Oh, and it just went to 1 beach in the end, and the water was absolutely filthy. But the location was spectacular so we made the most of it. Oh, and on the gringos note, I seem to have found myself in a hostel where everyone has a similar dislike for the traditional English tourist! In the evening we decided to go to a club called Zero Zero. Apparently it´s where all the beautiful people go (and in this city, that´s quite a claim!). A Brazilian girl Paul knows claimed ... read more

My little friend was telling me the other night about a giant frog that lives around here and it has teeth!..Well, I couldn't just let that go past, frogs don't have teeth I replied. Then it was on...all sorts of memories, anecdotes, we had the wait staff at the bar involved, later, taxi drivers, by standers, people on the street. She had a dfinite advantage, she speaks espanol so she could ask the question and filter the answers..I understand enough about espanol and also arguments with women!... read more

I've decided to open the museum of blistered feet with my own feet as the key exhibit. I think at this point in time my feet are actually more blisters than skin, and I also think that my boots are somehow not going to find their way back to Australia. I used to love Scarpa boots, now I'd love to hire a terrorist to blow their factories up. However, I more than survived our five days walking the 'W' in Torres Del Paine, I loved it, we had near perfect weather the whole trip, the views were magnificent and it was another real highlight. I'm sure that there are hundreds of descriptions of the walk out there, so I won't bore anyone with details of the route other than to say that if I had taken ... read more

Hi everyone, Its a shame to say but another year has passed and im still living the dream!!! In a quaint little beach town called mar del plata, which for you dummards who dont speak two languages fluently like me is translated to sea of silver.... Hardly cause the sea here looks like toilet water from bubba-joes crapper in the d-block, but we have to make do with what we have RIGHT??? No its a great town just not what i expected, i was hoping for small little island town with sandy roads and dogs running around everywhere with crystal waters and well you get me, and got big city with more people in it than people that queue outside of Kazachstans only mcdonalds. So we have had a few great nights here and now its ... read more

Also ganz kunterbunt gemischt, aber praktisch alle sprachen spanisch. Nur noch kurz ... read more

Thank the Good Lord for two wonderfully laid-back Peace Corps Bolivia Volunteers, Rebecca and Lauren. I was in southwest Bolivia with no plans for the Holidays. In order to make sure I didn't spend Christmas alone reading The DaVinci Code in some dark musty hostel, I invited myself to little Peace Corps Christmas party in Tarija, Bolivia. I didn't know Rebecca or Lauren, but I decided the PC bond would make up for any deficiences in our nonexistant relationship. They welcomed me warmly and even gave me the guest bedroom on the roof with wonderful view of the town. I made myself at home.....and then decided to stay for 8 days. Tarija has little to do for an itinerant gringo. It was perfect. I ate saltenas, drank coffee, and sat in the park. I had no ... read more

Happy New Year to y'all! A ridiculous o'clock alarm got us up and ready to leave Ushuaia for Puerto Natales. It was a lot of miles, consisting of mainly nothing. Not even roads - bumpy gravel - not ideal for sleeping. We stopped somewhere to swap buses, before embarking on a journey of more nothingness. It was amazing to see so much nothing; just flat, bare, windswept and barren land. The border crossing to Chile was just a couple of huts, 14km apart. It's hard to put into words how empty this part of the world is. 18 hours later, we arrived at Puerto Natales, a small town built mainly of corrugated iron and a questionable fashion sense. Fishnet gloves, anybody? We stayed at a fantastic hostel: Erratic Rock, owned by a couple of American expats. ... read more
