So we reached Rio after a 13 hr flight on a plane. Best part was taking the local bus ( a better version of a matatu 4 all kenyans) to the Hostel No matter what everyone thinks Mohini ( Moo) and I have a really good sense of direction! Checked into the hostel - Trip Hostel in Santa Terra. The hostel is gorgeous - we have large room - wooden carved doors - power shower - hammock just outside our room - ahhhh! See pics As soon as we had a shower - manager ( Young man - 25) drove us to Ipanema beech with his friends and Moo and I got to .... well .... had to ...wear bikini which was an experience itself. Manager is an Engineering graduate and talks amazing english - and ... read more

South America » Ecuador » North » Quito November 22nd 2006

Segundo eles, minha função como Slot Hostess é To adhere to the standars of Harrah´s Reno ! Nada ... read more

Hello all, and apologies for taking so long to post this. I´ll recap a bit, with La Paz, a city beyond the description of words, so i´ll let the pics do the talking. After a day delay, I took a tiny plane to Rurrenebaque, in the Bolivian jungle for a 3 day tour of the pampas. Highlights included crocodile spotting by canoe at night, pirahna fishing, and swimming with pink river dolpins (along with the pirahna and the crocs!). Got to see capybaras in the wild, which was so cool, after seeing them in cages at Amazoonico. Got ravaged by mosquitos and bed bugs! Onward to Villa Tunari, a completely unispiring spot, home to Inti Wari Yassi, the animal sanctuary i was to be at for a month. Where to begin?? The first hostal i stayed ... read more

South America » Ecuador » East » Cuyabeno Reserve November 22nd 2006

Hi everyone, and happy Thanksgiving... I’m back after a few weeks of traveling around Ecuador. It really is quite a country… so much variety in a pretty small place, and there is still more to see. I’ll post my most recent photos first, since I have a lot of them... These are from the Cuyabeno Reserve, from where I returned this morning. It's a stretch of jungle on a tributary of the Amazon near the Colombian border. It was everything I could have expected and more... We saw a baby caiman (something like an alligator), a piranha (which someone had fished), monkeys (but from a distance), a sloth, tarantulas, and the anaconda pictured here, which actually seemed pretty unfazed by the group of people gawking at it. We fished, swam, hiked, canoed (or, for the most ... read more

South America » Argentina » Salta November 22nd 2006

Deciding to leave Buenos Aires was easy enough the hard part was deciding where to go. In the end after much deliberation I decided to head straight for Bolivia but thought it would be good to break the journey up and stay in Salta for the night. So before I begin to tell you about Salta I feel the need to tell you about my first and only bus journey up until now in Argentina. On my way to BA the bus journey was nearly better than any flight that I’ve been on (Club Class to New York still wins hands down). The seats roll all the way back and part way through the journey we stopped and were rallied into this restaurant where we were given a 3 course meal with wine. Then on the ... read more

South America » Peru » Lambayeque » Chiclayo November 22nd 2006

Chiclayo After weeks of inactivity, I’ve decided to return to the world of blogging and try to remember what we did while in Peru……if the words aren’t all there, at least the photos are here to give you a bit of a visual idea of what my eyes saw while in Peru. So we begin with Chiclayo. We entered Chiclayo mid-day after a relatively short (about 4 hours) bus ride from Mancora. The first thing we noticed was that Chiclayo is a big city set in the middle of a dry desert, with many white and light coloured buildings. The minute we stepped off the bus we felt the blazing heat, and were greated by a friendly taxi driver named Herbert who welcomed us to his city, known nationally as the capital of friendship. After helping ... read more

South America » Bolivia » Potosí Department » Salar de Uyuni November 22nd 2006

After the busy city of LaPaz we decided to see the famous Salt Lakes in Uyuni. Ofcourse, travelling in Bolivia is not as easy as one would want. To get to Uyuni we jumped on a 13 hour bus ride. The bus smelt, was squashy and had no toilet. So we spent the ride watching Narnia in Spanish, had one midnight toilet stop of 10mins for 40 people and had the bumpiest ride of our lives.... Lets just the say the roads are in need of some serious attention. So we finally arrived in Uyuni at 6am. It is a Western Town. Flat, hot and empty roads, best known for the Salt Lake tours, which is exactly what we did. We jumped on a jeep with Andy (our English friend), Swiss Sonia (our friend who thankfully understands ... read more

South America » Bolivia » Chuquisaca Department » Sucre November 22nd 2006

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires November 22nd 2006

Greetings all Since we last spoke a lot of things have occured mainly the start of our GAP tour. Meaning that we are leaving Buenos Aires and starting on our way to RIO. We met the people on our gap tour and they are a really cool bunch and are really easy to get along with. The first day of our GAP adventure was a quick tour of Buenos Aires with us visiting all the main sites like Evitas grave and the suburb of La Boca. la Boca is quite a poor area however the people that live there have constructed all the buildings out of different coloured materials, giving it really different vibe. It was an awesome place and definately worth the one peso bus fare however as it is quite a poor suburb its ... read more
