Map of South America
South America is a continent situated in the western hemisphere and, mostly, the southern hemisphere, and bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean.

As part of the Americas, South America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the Americas were not the East Indies, but a New World unknown to Europeans.

South America offers a range of travel options - with stunning coastlines, vibrant cities, historic colonial towns, mountainous treks and the vast and bio-diverse Amazonian rainforest.

The main reason why I came to Trujillo was because I saw the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon in Google Earth. And then there was the recommendation in my guidebook that its worth stopping and the fact that it nicely breaks a otherwise 16 hour bus ride neatly in two halves. Trujillo has a third important archaeological site called [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wi [View Full Entry]

Having spent the night listening to an American with a cold that I can only liken the noise to the sound made when ripping a thick piece of material such as a doormat, we got up & had a comprehensive breakfast next door made by the mother at our hostel, nobody else was around as they had been dancing all night. We went into town & finally found some cash at an ATM not inside a bank as it was a Sunday morning, then like everyone else in Latin America it was off to church, well Monasterio Santa Catallina anyway. Iīve wanted to go to Peru for a very long time, probably over half my life, ever since I first discoved the travel writing section in my local library. Now that Iīm finally here, my opinion of the place is somewhat mixed to say the least. Yes, the countryside is beautiful and the Incan ruins worth seeing, but having been scammed, hassled and hounded by trinket sellers for the last week, it hasnīt got a hope of knocking Bolivia off the top spot of favourite places visited to date. To get the picture, think more Bali and Sri Lanka than Borneo [View Full Entry]

Stop working for a bit and make yourself a brew... It's time to join me for a story or two... Chachapoyas Not a great place in my opinion, the town had lots of potential, being mainly white washed red-roofed buildings but sadly lacking upkeep and vibrancy. Very good Chinese restaurant here though! Booked up for the trip to Kuelap...supposedly a site to rival Machu Picchu... Kuelap tour Day one was spent mostly in a taxi driving Chachpoyas. We stopped briefly for a walk to see some 2600 year old sarcophaguses high on a mountain ledge. Amazing that these bamboo and mud [View Full Entry]

Its been ages since i had something to say or felt like writing, nearly 3 months has passed since i arrived back to Buenos Aires from my tranquilo life in El Bolson, working in hostel heaven. What a memory it will stay, such an amazing place to chill and meet locals and suck up fresh clean country air. Was such a great experience sometimes i wonder why i ever left. Back in the big smokey ciudad is definately a slap in the face and people donīt seem to have as much time for a lazy chat. This is the hardest part [View Full Entry]

I only have internet access when I am in the office so I haven’t been able to post in a few days. My days have been very busy though and passing super quickly. My last post was on Wednesday morning before I left for the Sao Paulo Judiciary to meet with the minister of environment. A press conference was taking place and it was packed with people. I’d say it was a mix of government officials, environmental activists, and NGO representatives. The conference was about the problems with environmental legislation in Brazil, and mainly the issue of decentralization of power in [View Full Entry]

see, just a tiny bit further south!
After a relativley short bus ride of 200kmīs south, we arrived in one of the main / biggest lake district towns - Bariloche. First impressions were not brilliant, it seemed as though Bariloche was just another big town, albeit with a great location on the side of Lago Haupi (sp?). However having visited the tourist information we were relieved to find that many cabins and self-catering hostels were located just outside the city, which meant that we did not have to spend the equivalent on a hotel. The first bungalow/ cabana we arrived at was akin to a granny-flat (no offence [View Full Entry]
