Map of South America
South America is a continent situated in the western hemisphere and, mostly, the southern hemisphere, and bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean.

As part of the Americas, South America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the Americas were not the East Indies, but a New World unknown to Europeans.

South America offers a range of travel options - with stunning coastlines, vibrant cities, historic colonial towns, mountainous treks and the vast and bio-diverse Amazonian rainforest.

After a tricky time in La Paz finding a bus out of the city to Uyuni (due to bus strikes), we set off on the long journey south. We arrive in Uyuni at 6am after a cold and uncomfortable bus ride. Needless to say it´s absolutely freezing when we get of the bus and set off in search of a warm room to catch up on some sleep. Finding that many places have no beds available we start panicking, our hands and feet turning to ice. So, at 7am we find ourselves banging on The Palace Hotel door until an old [View Full Entry]

Contraire [View Full Entry]

Sur le chemin...

Since a long time ago I was planning to go to Morro de São Paulo. The opportunity came and me and my brother Bruno enjoyed 2 days of good weather, nice beaches, food and people. We stayed on the second beach at Villa das Pedras pousada. I experienced one of the most beautiful sunsets of my life from The Toca Louca. The vibe was amazing. Morro is a very special place. A bit expensive though, as it is now full of "gringos". [View Full Entry]

Arequipa

In Arequipa we saw Juanita the Ice PRincess, from 1490AD she is a 14 year old Incan mummy sacrificed at the top of the Ampato volcano near Arequipa. She is amazingly well preserved you can still see her skin, hair, teeth and some of the cloth that she is wrapped in looks like new. I am feeling quite at home at the hostel in Arequipa, the brothers that own it (Victor and Hugo-my guide in Colca) have been really kind to me. I got a free, very decadent breakfast at a restaurant down the road which Victor's friend owns. It was [View Full Entry]

15 Mayo - Aquas Caliente I am preparing for an early morning. Fixing to take a shower and go to bed… Okay, done with the shower. Now, to bed and then tomorrow…Machu Picchu! I am excited! But, not as excited as I would have imagined. I am glad that I'm not though, thinking it is better to go in with less expectations rather than more. I have been preoccupied lately. I finished Spanish classes on Friday, during the last 5 weeks in Cusco, going to class has been my primary focus, but I have been spending a lot of time looking [View Full Entry]

To get straight to the point.... we did it!!! It was four exhausting days: uphill, downhill and bits of Andean flat (otherwise known as uphill but not as uphill as Andean uphill). The scenery was stunning and Machu Picchu took our breath away - it was worth every penny and every ounce of energy we spent in getting there. Before the trek started we were hit with some bad news: a landslide had occurred towards the end of the trail which meant that the final section of the trek, from the famous Sun Gate to the city of Machu Picchu, was [View Full Entry]

After our usual buffet-style breakfast at the Marriott, we were forced to make a big decision: There were several places and events in Buenos Aires that are best to visit on Sundays but it would had been impossible for us to cover them all in one day. On this particular day, there was a major football match (or soccer, as this worldwide sport is known in the U.S.) between the prestigious BA team “Boca Juniors” and the team Olimpo from Bahía Blanca for the 2006 national championship. Going to a football match in Buenos Aires was another item in our list [View Full Entry]

ISLE TOUR Puerto Blanca
HI there again, I am now adjusting to life back on the planet Earth after 8 days in paradise on the Galapagos Islands, 1000kms off the coast of Ecuador. Diana, Carolyn and I flew over there May 3 and joined a small launch with 7 other tourists and sailed north to 3 lovely islands and snorkled with reef sharks, giant turtles, penguins, sting rays, sea lions and countless tropical fish. We climbed volcanoes, watched marine iguanas, sea lions playing on the beach and in the water and saw amazing sunsets. On the 2nd day we chased and caught up with a [View Full Entry]

The curvy road up through the Andes on the road from Santiago to Mendoza
Well, I´m back here in Santiago after my brief visit to Argentina. I was there for four nights and visited the city and surroundings of Mendoza. There are so many other places in Argentina that I would have loved to visit, but of course, there is only so much time. Mendoza is located due east of Santiago, with the Andes mountains separating the two. I took a beautiful six hour bus ride to get there, and after quickly escaping the smoggy surroundings of Santiago, the road went up and over the Andes. The scenery was amazing. The border crossing was pretty [View Full Entry]
