Thursday i took a wander round Palermo Viejo in the morning because it was such a lovely day. All the trees are starting to turn green, and the buildings look so elegant in dappled sunshine. Palermo is all pretty much low rise, old buildings with these ornate carvings and massive doors and windows, its so beautiful. Im not going to get many more chances just to wander around this neighbourhood, so i thought i should make an effort. Thursday was also my last day at school, it went fine, and the 7ths even gave me a round of applause and thanked [View Full Entry]

AHHH!
AHHH!
Bobby and his new friend!
Finally an update...we have been keeping ourselves pretty busy! We have been at La Hesperia for about 3 weeks now and I donīt even know where to begin. The reserve is owned and operated by a couple, Juan Pablo and Alexandra, they just had a baby boy named Juan Ignacio, so things have been a little disorganized but we make do. They are a very nice couple in their early 30īs. Juan Pabloīs dad bought the land that the reserve is on in the 1950īs from a friend of his to help him out. Now Juan Pablo and Alexandra run it [View Full Entry]

Ecuador.

 South America » Ecuador
After finishing the Inca Trail it was time to get a move on, the original plan was to go to Nazca to see the Nazca lines, however, all of the buses were full on the day we needed to travel, also the weather was very unsettled and we were worried about arriving there and being holed up for days waiting for a clear day so that we could take the flight. We decided to not bother with Nazca and instead bussed our way straight out of Peru into Ecuador. This turned out to be a mammoth journey, we spent a total [View Full Entry]

(deutscher text weiter unten) Well the last few days have been great, except for the fact that we had to change hostels as we could not get a double room in the hostel we where staying in (Archies Place) as they where all booked up. Archies was a nice and laid back hostel, however the only place we could find happened to be in the Lonely planet Guide - what a mistake. Our room was at street level, which was nice and noisy due to the passing traffic, then add to that a night club straight across the road that stays [View Full Entry]

Pueblos del Sur

 South America » Venezuela
La Mesa de los Indios The name of the town refers to its position on a table-top overlooking an expansive valley. We had read that it was a totally authentic town with many charming colonial houses. Its Plaza Bolivar was a sight to behold, filled with palm trees and colourful flowers. NOT HOW WE FOUND IT Yes, it was at the top of the valley, but the views were no better than Merida. The authenticity of the town I think just refered to the fact that no one was around and those who were, just sat doing nothing. Plaza Bolivar had [View Full Entry]

My bunk is the one on the top right hand side. Definitely communal living!!
Hello All, Well, finally made it to Ayacucho all in one piece after a very long and tiring journey!! Left on the 6.15am flight to Heathrow on 8 October and arrived in Ayacucho airport at 3am UK time on 9 October. No hassles with any of the flights or connections and (in contrast to one of my Swiss holidays) my luggage arrived with me!! Ayacucho is 9,000 feet up in the Andes. A very beautiful but very dry place. Iīm staying at the Cross Cultural Solutions home base - basically a big hostel. Very definitely communal living!! I share a room [View Full Entry]

Rain

South America » Ecuador » Quito
Rain
Rain
outside our front door
Under most circumstances I love the rain. I love the first rain that comes after three months' drought, when the land is so parched it has forgotten a life with water and given in to its arid world, and when those first drops hit the ground the earth heaves a sigh of relief and it feels as though the whole world is reborn. And I love the rain that is hardly a drizzle, that clings to spider webs and the ends of your eyelashes, and the rain that lashes against windowpanes while you are inside, warm and dry, a mug of [View Full Entry]

Then Carol and I went out to eat a this beautiful restaurant that looks out over the coast. It had this really great views since it was built [View Full Entry]
