Map of South America
South America is a continent situated in the western hemisphere and, mostly, the southern hemisphere, and bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean.

As part of the Americas, South America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the Americas were not the East Indies, but a New World unknown to Europeans.

South America offers a range of travel options - with stunning coastlines, vibrant cities, historic colonial towns, mountainous treks and the vast and bio-diverse Amazonian rainforest.

We picked up a taxi to Colegio Medico on the other side of Cusco where we met some of the other students from Excel. Luis, one of the Profesors de Español turned up a little after 8am apologising profusely for being late. We crossed the road to the bus terminal & skipped the first bus going our way as there was already people crammed into the aisles. The second bus left only moments later & came with a girl with a very hoarse voice who gave out sweets & then came round to say the sweets were six for one sol. [View Full Entry]

I automatically fell in love with the Bolivan people. short, stocky people. dark skinned and sporting round rimmed hats that were functionally useless!!! but looked great!! We arrived in Tupiza in Friday...knackered! starving, we found a popular hangout- there is not much to be said about Bolivan food apart from it need taste!!! this country does not know anything about salt. food is bland and ordinary...alot of chicken!!! not evry impressed after all the steaks i had been eating in Argentina!! This was the area where Butch cassidy and The Sundance Kid made their last stand! they were ki [View Full Entry]

Spent 5 nights in Mendoza and watched the Champions League final there, Barca edged it for me. Visited one of the wineries, La Rural and got very drunk on Malbec, the most famous wine from this region. Starting to gain weight having eaten in "all you can eat" restaurants two nights in a row... the quality and choice of food in these places is amazing. Had my first asado (Arg. BBQ) on a hostel night and met some really fun people, including South African, Scot and Yank Wes (addendum we met up with Wes in Uyuni, La Paz, Copacabana). Aside from [View Full Entry]

This sleepy lakeside dusty town is a great place to just chill, do a little hiking, exploring and visit the island of the Sun while you´re at it. We stayed at Hostal Sonia for the duration, a good place - double room for $5US a day with a lukewarm electric shower - not bad, and took advantage of their laundry services. Clean clothes are good and by the time we arrived we were running dangerously low on tidy clothing. The family were very nice, we could have made use of the kitchen during our stay but decide to have breakfast there [View Full Entry]

The bus to El Calafate was an arduous journey, 34 hours in a new but not particularly luxurious bus. Luckily we reserved the front seats which allowed us a little extra leg-room. We arrived at El Calafate at 1am having lost lots of sleep but gaining two friends: Robert from Austria and James an Ex-Pat living in Spain. James had booked a place at a hostel so we just jumped in a cab with him and stayed there too. We were asleep within minutes. We woke the following morning at about 11am, we had missed breakfast. The whole town is surrounded [View Full Entry]
