This is the buidling next to ours. Abdul had just gone to the gym and I was in bed watching Will and Grace when it went off. I thought our windows where going to break and were on the 12th floor! All the windows on the buildings and shops across the street broke. I thought it was a bomb. Freaky!!! Gas explosion kills two Firemen work outside an apartment building in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Recoleta yesterday where a natural-gas explosion and an ensuing fire killed two people and injured 14. Pass the guinea pig

On the 12th, Mini decided to do a Sacred Valley tour, while I planned to organise my Spanish school for next week. That night tried the local drink - Pisco Sour (okay), and also tried the local specialty - guinea pig. It was really tasty with crunchy skin, and kind of tasted like quail. Pisco Sour anyone?

It was just a brief visit to the town which shares its name with the locally produced, white-grape brandy drink which is commonly knocked up into a refreshing Pisco Sour cocktail in this region. The name Pisco actually means "birds" in the local language of Quechua and was named as such because the area is host to millions of the feathery creatures. Eben hatte er noch Sprueche geklopft und sich gefreut, ueber das Diplom, das er vom Bergfuehrerbuero erhalten wuerde, wenn er uebermorgen diesen Berg, dessen Gipfel nur 1400 Meter ueber unseren Zelten ragt, bezwingen wird. Es gab keinen Zweifel, dass wir es schaffen wuerden. Jetzt uebergibt sich Spencer wie noch nie zuvor in seinem Leben und alles, was er in den letzten paar Stunden auf der Fahrt im 4x4 Fahrzeug an den Fuss dieses Berges in sich gestopft hatte, kommt explosionsartig und unverdaut wieder ans Licht. Trains to Brazil...

So the only way to the Pantanal and Brazil is a 16-20hr train, doesnt sound too bad especially if we splash out and go top class with full reclining seats for a few pounds. Oh those trains dont go til Sunday, we get told, and its Friday so we have to go semi-recline and slightly grubby class, half price. After scrambling to find people to go on a 4 day jeep tour of southwest Bolivia, I left Tupiza on 20 May with a driver/guide, a cook and 5 Israelis. For a country with a small population, I am amazed at how many travellers you meet from Israel. Not only that, so many places in South America have menus/signs written in Hebrew, as opposed to English. We'd paid $95 each, which covered everything for the next 4 days. Journée au lever tardif, et nous rejoignons les stades où Evo Morales est arrivé à grand bruit, par les airs. Son hélicoptère s'est posé dans le stade. La foule se réunit donc sur les gradins, sur les murs, on lui fait l'accueil d'une pop-star.
