Today was my first day woke up so early to get to the internship. My internship is near La Moneda, which is the government palace, I guess its equivalent is the White House, but the building here is totally open, always open for tours, there is a underground museum in front of the building, its a really beautiful building with flowing waters, yahh and i work in a building on the street on one side of the building. Well anyways I thought I was going to be late, had to be there at 9 am, was like omg I'm a few minutes late, but nope nobody was there. I mean nobody except for ONE person. What?!!! This would never happen in America. So people run on chilean time here, if someone tells you somethings gonna start at some time, it starts a half hour or even an hour later. I mean I thought this was pretty official so people would be on time or early, but nope. People started showing up eventually. I was told my task: I am going to write a report on one product that is typical of Chile to export and its marketability in one city in China. Neat right? Using sites in Chinese, read Chinese documents...oh snaps haha. So for example, salmon....in Fuzhou...yes or no? haha
I also saw the change of guard from the office on the 10th floor! I had read about it; every 2 days they have a change of guard at the palace. It was like a loud parade, lol.
So gosh, I sat at that desk for about 8 hours just looking stuff up about Chile and China and their relationship, trade, economics, etc. since I only know a little. Like Chile was the first Latin American country to open trade with China back in 1970. Chile signed a free trade agreement with China. Things like that. Everyone went out for lunch, I guess I could have gone to a restaurant with other people, but I had brought a lunch. Everyone who works at the office ok most people are older adults, hrmm. So I guess I d id a lot but not really.
When I first came in, one of the women started talking to me about Obamas speech. She was like(in English) you Americans are such great speakers. (She likes to do a lot of generalizations, like you Asian women are so beautiful, but the Asian men are NOT). Even though she was an English teacher, I don't think she knows that saying You is kind of too direct. She said things I did'nt agree with, but whatever.

Yooo man. Ok I've come back for a moment. I'm glad you get to pursue a topic that you're interested in for your internship. Now you get to mingle w/ the important people I guess. Ooo yeah and I guess Chinese people don't really eat salmon. I had that convo w/ my parents too. They don't really eat broccoli or asparagus either just b/c of its availability? ooo and I don't think I would enjoy Chilean time. Have fun on your excursion once again tomorrow! I think I am going to watch Samantha Brown instead of playing guitar now. I've become way to lazy which is very very bad.
