Travel Peru DAY 2: LIMA
When I awoke at 9:00am today, I remembered how overcast and humid Lima can be in autumn. Despite the weather it is a capital with a lot of history (the main colony of Spain in America) and nice places to visit.
I was eager to begin my trip, which I’d been planning for over three months. The first thing I did was go to the bank and deposit my money in an account. Those who are not Peruvian would not be able to do this, in which case I would suggest taking some cash in a safe bag hidden somewhere on your body and a credit card or a debit card, so you can get money at any ATM. You can take traveler checks and change them in the main cities, but the charge is higher than getting money from an ATM. Mastercard and VISA are the most accepted.
After the bank I went for a walk around Miraflores, a really nice city, especially for tourists, with a beautiful boulevard and a great view of the ocean and the coast where you can even find people doing paragliding for around US $70.00.
In Miraflores you can find a lot of three-, four-, and five-star hotels, an artisan market in the Ricardo Palma Ave. and also a modern mall with a great view of the ocean called “Larcomar”.
After that I went to Barranco to enjoy the great view of the “Puente de los Suspiros” (The Bridge’s Sigh) and the old houses surrounding the area. This bridge was built in the late 1800’s and it is a place to enjoy the view and the romance in the air because of the lovers that are usually there.
After that I made arrangements to get to my next stop, Pisco. It is the closest city to Paracas, and Paracas is the city where you need to go in order to do the Ballestas Island and the Paracas Rerserve tours; more on that later.
In order to do the Ballestas Island tour I would have to take an early bus to Pisco, so I decided to travel with Soyuz (a bus company) on a bus leaving around 5:30 am to be in Pisco around 8:45 am and in Paracas around 9:30 am. I would have chosen to travel on the “Cruzero” of
”Cruz del Sur” but it was leaving at 7:00 am, which was too late for me.
