Venezuelan bolivars are worth so little we almost ended up in a Weimar Germany situation with piles of banknotes
The last two days have been awesome...We woke up at the crack of dawn on Tuesday to start our drive down the coastal highway..some lovely views and beaches on the way...venezuelans drive pretty fast for the crappy roads so we had to be a bit careful since the highway went through hills and was full of bends and hairpin turns..

after stopping at a couple of beaches, we landed up at playa colorada, a slightly touristy beach, but with safe parking for the car, and jumped into the water...after spending a few hours on the beach, we got a fisherman to take us to some nearby islands, where we snorkelled around la piscina and saw some weird coral (looked like a human brain) and cool fish

the coral was so shallow that at parts you had to keep your body dead straight or it would scrape your stomach...graeme even got bummed on some when he was trying to adjust his snorkel, i got a good underwater view of that and cracked up and ended up swallowing loads of water

for dinner we parked the car and ate on the beach and had a couple of beers sitting in a fishing boat

we stayed at a little posada or hostel that night, our first decent room...we also started eating stuff off the roadside to economise, since we´ve spent wayyy too much money already...

the next morning we went down further to a town called mochima where there is a national park full of little islands...here we charter a boat, and did some snorkelling in the middle of the sea, and saw masses of dolphins...i saw one doing a proper leap out of the water and it was verrrry cool...

also after laughing at graeme for days and calling him a pansy for using sunscreen, i got so badly sunburnt on my back, that i couldnt sleep on my back for days...last time i laugh at white people who slop sunscreen on..but yeah we´ve both gone pretty brown after two days in the water.

we then had to drive all the way back to barcelona airport to return the car and had to get a taxi back to puerto la cruz to find a horrible place to crash...

Some of these beaches you can only get to by boat, the cliffs are too steep for a road.

These were so smart...everytime we got near enough to see them properly, the would disappear..
