Today was the day I was going from Colombia to Venezuela. I knew it was going to be a long trip, as I was aiming to get to the town of Coro, on the North West coast. My first task was to catch the bus from Riohacha to the border. The hotel owner explained how to get to the bus stop and I set off shortly after 7am for the 30 minutes walk. The bus was already there and it wasn't too long before we set off. The journey was taking me to Maicao, the nearest town to the border. From there, I shared a taxi with a retired German couple (I'd met them in the restaurant the night before and they were also going to Coro). Chichistä Paraguanan niemimaalle ja Maracaiboon Venezuelan osuus matkasta läheni loppuaan ja meidän oli jatkettava matkaa kohden Maracaiboa jonne olimme palauttamassa auton. Viimeiseksi pysähdyspaikaksi valitsimme Paraguanan niemimaan joka on kiinni mantereessa vain pitkän kapean kannaksen kautta. Ennen Paraguanaa pistäydyimme Coron kaupungissa josta löytyi kaunis vanha keskusta. Matka Chichistä Coroon kesti vain muutamia tunteja ja meillä oli hyvin aika pistäytyä Coron kaupungissa. Tosin satuimme paikalle pahimpaan mahdolliseen aikaan, eli aivan keskipäivällä jolloin kuumuus on aivan tukahduttavaa ja kaupungin kierteleminen kävellen täysin mahdotonta. Jo pieni hetki keskipäivän auringossa riittää polttamaan meidän ’blankitojen’ nahan joten parempi pysytellä varjossa kuumin aika. Hey Guys! Greetings from Coro, in the north-west of Venezuela. I´m currently using the slowest computer I´ve seen since the 1990s, and this city seems to have had a power cut every evening since I´ve been here, but hopefully I´ll still get to complete this blog entry and upload any photos before any disasters happen… Although it seems that this computer is not accepting my camera upload, let´s hope it will by the end of this message. Wow - am having an amazing time, and since leaving Caracas, have really felt like I´m “travelling” again - seeing amazing places, staying in great hotels and enjoying the local food.
