This week I have just been busy with class of course, students battling more outbreaks of parasites and amoebas, a few daily run-ins with power outages or water shortages, but of course fun things as well! Its become a house routine at night to take turns watching movies in Spanish-with English subtitles, or in English with Spanish subtitles. We mostly end up watching the movies in Spanish but its great way to learn and this way my older sister-’chili’ can practice English as well because she is planning her first trip to the U.S. I think she might be in for a little bit of shock after hardly leaving Venezuela and knowing as much English as ’how are you,’ ’good night’ and lots of great miscellaneous vocab.
We decided to stay and hang out in Merida this weekend-going to some local bars, flee market shopping, and hopefully catching a baseball game somewhere…we just have to figure out where and how to get there : ) It was really exciting to go out on Thursday to a local ‘discoteca’ and run into some ‘toursits’ of Merida. It gets a little old being the old foreigners sometimes, we often seem
to be a gringo spectacle wherever we go kind of like we have our little parade. Anyways, we ran into a crew from Ireland! It was amazing partying with them-as you can imagine, and just made me itch to get back there even more.
Kara and I also wandered into the only known American stake out in Venezuela, (what can I say we craved something other then arepas which we eat everyday, along with the occasional fried plantains, yucca plant and typical crillo plate..) So we went for some all American ice-cream at McDonalds. After figuring out we accidentally ordered their version of a Mcflurry instead of cones, we had fun trying out what venezolanos consider a rare delicacy. Let me put it this way, McDonalds is more precious then the gasoline here and people flock even with a $10 burger price tag. Did I mention we can fill up a large jeep (maybe 18 gallons) for a mere $2 usd?! Its safe to say that petroleum is their largest export-just a random fact for your day. Anyways, two weeks left! Its hard to believe time has passed so quickly, it will definitely be hard to leave here but
in the meantime, a surprise around every corner im sure : )

We are enjoying your pictures and comments. We wish you well as you prepare to leave and head back to the US of A! Hard to believe how fast your stay has gone by.
We hope you have had a great time and perhaps even learned a little, ha, ha.
It is finally warming up and we expect 80 degree days and some humidity by the end of the week. So the cabin awaits!!!
We wish you well,
Love,
Grandpa, Paula (and Heidi too)
