Partying in SaltoPartying in SaltoPartying in Salto

Me and the other group members at our all night bender
We went to Salto, Uruguay next which was a really small city. We took a night bus there only it was the most random trip ever. We took a bus to the middle of nowhere Argentina and had cabs waiting on the side of the road for us. The cabs then drove us to Salto and over the border. It was nice in Salto but fairly boring. We went to the thermal baths there which was nice. They were so warm which was good because we were moving into colder weather by this point. We had spa treatments done while we were there which was awesome. And eat your hearts our ladies, we paid $40 US for a massage, scrub, wrap, and full facial. Yeah, you sure can't get that back home. We went and met up with another GAP group that night for a drink after dinner and well, the guide and I didn't get home until 5 in the morning. I should add here that our bus to Montevideo left Salto at 6am. We were tired to say the very least. We took a bus ride to Montevideo which is the capital of Uruguay. It was really nice
Independence SquareIndependence SquareIndependence Square

This was really close to our hotel and it is one of the main squares in Montevideo. The old Spanish citadel used to be in this square but it was demolished and this monument was constructed. Under the statue is the remians of the founder or Uruguain independence.
there. It was about the same size as Calgary in terms of population. We cruised around the city the first day but there wasn't much to do becuase the whole city shuts down on Sunday and that is when we arrived. I have never seen so many statues and monuments in my life. There were so many. One the second day in Montevideo we went on a city tour and got to know a lot about the history of the city. It is very long and complex but I will tell you guys when I get home. There was loads of pics to take or beautiful scenary and stuff but it was generally just a quiet city. We went to an artisan market and I bought 4 new necklaces and that was the highlight of that stop. We then headed into another small city called Colonia. This city was sooo pretty. I loved it there. I wasn't feeling very well so I was in bed for part of the 1 day that we had to spend there but I would love to go back. It was so colonial and so small and quiet. It reminded me of a town out
Biggest church in UruguayBiggest church in UruguayBiggest church in Uruguay

This is the biggest church in Uruguay and it is a huge memorial to a bunch of really important people in Uruguayan history. The Catholic church played a big role in bringing education and freedom to Uruguay and this church is very much evidence of that.
of a fairy tale.
