We all got up and checked out at 10:30am, and Christoph and I decided to get the 11am bus to Montevideo and Scott hung around a bit longer for the 1pm. Christoph and I chose a hostel in the old city near a site where he could get an "obscenely" large steak for lunch, but it turned out that this size came with a similar price. We opted for cheaper instead. Spent the rest of the day walking around the city, not being nearly as impressed as we wanted to be. We ran into Scott, who was with some new friends and staying at a different hostel. We agreed to meet up for dinner another day. Christoph and I decided to get ice cream at the 4th McDonalds we saw, and sat down to eat it there. We sat in the McCafe, which as it turns out, we were not allowed to do since we had purchased nothing remotely McCafe-ish, like a coffee. So we were asked (told) to move to a different part of the restaurant. :) This was after I ordered my ice cream and then waited until the ice cream person felt like working to deliver the ice cream to me while everyone else just stood there looking at me. Very strange.
The best thing I saw, and the most different, was the garbage horses. All the garbage seemed to be removed from the city not by truck, but by guys driving horses that had carts with bags just for the trash. So there would be all kinds of crazy traffic on the main street, and then clip clop horse sounds on all the side streets. It was great. Those horses worked hard.
Seeing the city just wasn´t what I had hoped for. Maybe it was the perpetual clouds, maybe it was the expensive hostel, maybe because I had already been to Buenos Aires and loved it, I´m not sure. But we both felt we could move on from Montevideo after this one day.

its funny that you mention "garbage horses"... the people who collect garbage using those carriages arent official garbage men.. THEY DO HAVE GARBAGE TRUCKS IN URUGUAY....lol... those guys are simply very poor and rely on the garbage they collect for survival.
