Today I woke up literally before dawn as we had to get to the port really early in the morning to get to Montevideo!
This time everything was smooth as we had arrived really early and got into a nice posh boat with its own duty free shop and stores inside whilst you’re travelling to Uruguay.
When we finally arrived in Montevideo, for some reason being near the Cuidad Vieja, which is famous for its artistic side of things, Montevideo overall, I felt was much more peaceful, nicer and less daunting than Buenos Aires, even though they have a lot of similarities. The funny thing was walking around downtown the main street in Montevideo was called 18 de Julio, yeah beat that double that of 9 de Julio! We decided to do some sightseeing and stopped for lunch near Plaza Independencia and the outdoor restaurant was just beautiful in that you got to absorb the atmosphere and enjoy your meal at the same time..
After we had lunch, we stopped at the markets near downtown…After we did some shopping we decided to head down all the way to the famous Playa Ramirez..I must admit it was so beautiful and
nice and the best part was seeing everyone in the park playing soccer..I have to say, for a population that Uruguay has, I can see why they have won two world cups… soccer here is more than an obsession.. it is life, people here do live and breath the game which is what I love and in general all of South America do but apart from Brazil…Uruguay is definitely the place to be!!!
We stopped at Cuidad Vieja for some early dinner and just before the sun would set we decided to catch a cab and get to the famous Estadio Centenario. For all of those that don’t know (really C’mon) this is the famous ground where the first ever world cup final was heard in 1930 and also might I add is where Australia had to play two daunting finals play-offs with Uruguay. Visiting the stadium I can see why even Brazil and Argentina have never won here…the place is just brilliant and daunting and to get a tour was just, what can I say Orgasmic!!!!
Around the area was just amazing with colour and passion and people playing the beautiful game…for me it was like a
homage and almost like a religious thing where all Muslims and some stage had to make their way to the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia…For me this was just like that!!!
Finally, when we got to BA really late at night…But here it’s where the party starts we went to a nice place with Bossa Nova music and had some great midnight early morning snack…All in all it was a great day!!!
