Here is a quick update (our once a month blog). Note; these pictures are all of one town in Northern Ecuador, not Peru. I really regret not bringing a laptop to deal with our hundreds of pictures. Pics of southern Ecuador and Peru next time I blog.
We spent 2 months in Ecuador, a very long time to spend in the smallest country in South America and we did not see a single volcano, the Amazon or any wildlife. Nothing but surfing the coastline (which was awesome). We really should have gone inland for some culture though; oops.
Now we have been in Mancora, Peru for almost 2 weeks, Peru´s most popular party-surf beach town. We are leaving tomorrow to stay in an abandoned Military town an hour south where there is basically nothing but 5 surf breaks (I dont think even any running water in the hostal). We will only be able to last there a week at the most and we will move south again to a more populated town.
All is pretty good; Jane has a parasite and I think some sketchy water gave me a sinus infection but other than that our heath alright.
It is 35C here and even though we are uber-tanned you cannot be in the sun without sunblock 30 or zinc block on. However we have to start surfing in 3mm wetsuits. There is the Humbolt water current that starts right about where we are now and goes south that turns the water temperature from about 32C to 20C in a 5km stretch (this current is responsible for the El Nino-El Nina effect. So in Mancora we are in bathtub like water and 30 minutes down the road we need to wear wetsuits. This is a problem as we dont have wetsuits, and Jane is really disgruntled about having to wear one. I obviously did not do enough research regarding this matter. Oops.
See you next month.

chad, great to hear an update and know that you and jane are having a culture-free good surfing time way down south. walsh and i just skied (well walsh skied - so 80's - while i rode my new burton) a sweet little hill in the kootneys. 20 cm of new champagne powder. nobody in sight. ancient chairlifts half the fun. walsh got vertigo on a double black under the chair while crusing off some 20 foot drop. me, i stuck to the treeline on some blues. nobody there, just us and fresh powpow. totally thought of you and jane as you would have loved this mountain. mulled wine in the old school bar. maybe you were catching ocean waves while we were shaking the snow off on sunday. happy easter. love, mac
