Lake Titicaca is gorgeous and so big you'd be forgiven for thinking you weren't at the sea. If only it werent at 3,800m above sea level - breathing and walking uphill at the same time doesnt get any easier!!
From the Peru side we did a quick day trip out to the islands. The first was the most interesting where the people have effectively made an island out of the reeds which grow in the lake. They also make their houses, boats, toys and all sorts. Its pretty amazing to see their way of life.
After this we headed over to Copacobana in Bolivia, to treat ourselves to a pretty hotel up on the hillside for Catrin's birthday. The room had a conservatory with wicker chairs and hammock to chill out watching the sunset. We could have stayed here forever...
As well as this we popped over to Isla del Sol, on the first day walking from the north to the south of the island, and the next day, crossing directly to the mainland and walked back to Copa. As always there is a young pup to keep us company on our travels, and this time a
Lake Titicaca - Uros Islands
The floating islands of the Uros people with everything made out of the reeds from the lake girl dog followed us the full 4.5 hours back to Copa, braving other dog's territories on the way. At the end she was absolutely exhausted and fell asleep in the harbour. We found her in exactly the same place the next day, still sleeping, so hopefully getting on with her new home!
Not many amusing stories from this part of the world, other than Catrin finally getting afflicted by the typical traveller's bad stomach, and braving the next bus trip to La Paz. Bolivia buses are even lower down the food chain with no toilets so a rather nerve-wracking 4 hours for a stomach just in recovery ;-)
