Hi.
Lima tour today. Interesting ...... Sprawling city of 7 plus mill people, in a city that seems to have grown in an ad-hoc fashion.
Humid cold and overcast all day, it is apparently like this all winter. Blue sky starts appearing nowish. Last measurable rain they had was in 1983. Although effectively in desert (oceanside), the place is nice and green, fed with water from the Andes (although most apparently flows east to flood the Amazon basin).
Visited an ancient adobe pyramid (being restored) in the middle of the city oday - along with the city square, the cathedral including the changing of the guards complete with John Cleese impersonations, and the Lacy museum - complete with 45000 bits of stuff that mean a lot to some people ...... (one of whom I am not!). It was however, genuinely good (but I have a reputation to uphold). The dish(?) which was half gold and haly siver (copy attached) took my eye, since nobody can work ou how it was achieved........
The cathedral was excellent but so help me, if I go into any more, there is a danger I may be converted.
Pleasingly, no one was attacked today = although
I dont have final reports in for the night.
Normal mix of pics - and Pete has asked me to point out that we are indeed using some of his pics from the new camera. As for today however, he has gone to bed before allowing me to download his shots. That is a shame for you lot as he has some interesting pics - particularly of the pre-Columbian erotic pottery. I was too young to take the pics, but my observations are that there were some very weird potters out there and from my astute observations, not many women! You will need to wait till next time for those pics.
Next time may be some time off, since we are into the jungle for 3 days, then onto the whole Inca thing. We may need to store up entries. Lack of access may be a good thing if there are many more days liek wall street experienced today. It must've been fun. Still all good here and Chris did well at dinns tonight.
Until later,
Ian

Thanks for the update, it's nice to know what is going on and where you are at and what you've seen. And it makes for far more interesting reading and viewing than watching Wall crash and taking everything with it. One thing's for sure - I don't think retirement is anytime soon!! Someone has to fund the Wall Street banker's performance bonuses!!!
Enjoy the jungle.
John
PS I went to the hospital today about my broken hand (fractured 5th metacarpal on the right hand). They didn't see any advantage to putting a pin in it and I have come away without the need for any further treatment. The hand is quite bruised but functional. At least I am able to type two handed now. JE
