Me desperté. Estaba bien. No era fantástico pero no era asco. Luego, comimos ANTICUCHO! Me encantan anticuchos.

Bueno. Estoy mucho mejor. Mi estomago y yo somos amigos otra vez gracias a Doctor Illescas y indirectamente gracias a Mr. Boddicker. Other than the illness, things have been going well. I'm getting the hang of work. I've been sporadically reading the book from the 70s that the psychologist lent me. It's hard because it's in Spanish, but I read it with my dictionary next to me. In other news, I watched Desperate Housewives for the first time today. It’s funny that I saw it for the first time in Peru. And now I’m ... read more

Monday 7th July Took the continental flight from new york to lima in my flipflops. (I wouldnt mind but it is not even the first time i have lost my shoes). Sat beside a american baptist pastor who is a missionary in peru. Interesting guy, much more interesting than the poor films continental show despite his frequent use of "Jesus Christ" and "Christ our lord" as well as his bush lovin politics. Definately a good man doing some work for the good of others with no gain for himself. Landed in lima and got a taxi to the hostel. I was surprised at the ammount of neon signs on side of the roads, the number of McDonalds, Pizza Huts and the number of cassinos. Taxi dropped me off at the Loki Hostel. People here seem to ... read more

Blogger Bec We´ve arrived! Day 1 (real) of our Peru trip saw us take in the sights of Peru´s capital, Lima. We spent most of the previous afternoon in bed watching Nadal beat Federer - we were going to see the sights, really! But when you have the world´s best tennis players slugging it out on the world stage, you have to go with the flow... We mostly just walked around the capital, taking in daily life in the affulent suburb of Miraflores. The highlight of the jaunt was visiting the Inca ruins which lie smack bang in the middle of the suburb - the ruins once took up over 12 city blocks but due to rapid expansion and greedy property developers, the site got gradually eroded over time until there is just now one ... read more

I sat by the pool in Huacachina yesterday, enjoying the sun and the peace and quiet. The American girls I had met here have almost finished their trip so they´ve been to all the places I will be going to and they have done me a list of all their tips of the best places to go (best desert places featuring prominently!) and I looked at the bookmark my mum gave me before I left with that Irish blessing on it of "may the road rise to meet you, may the wind always be at your back" etc and I thought - well isn´t this all a bit too easy? Everything has gone so smoothly so far and where´s the adventure in that? Where is the adventure in going to places which people have already told ... read more

Well through the wonders of technology I have sorted out the mystery of my missing tour group who I was expecting to meet 50 mins ago, at 8am (having rushed back from lovely Huacachina on my hellish bus ride, but I´m not going to go into that again). It turns out I needn´t have rushed as people will be arriving here throughout the day and I have a room booked here tonight then am being picked up from here to go and catch my flight to Cusco early tomorrow morning. I´m not entirely impressed because booking hotels and flights etc is really easy, the only reason for doing it through a tour was to have company. But hey ho. I suspect that the group isn´t going to really get together until Cusco so instead of 8 ... read more

It is ten until 6:00 pm and I'm eating at what must be a Peruvian Diner. I just ordered an "hamburguesa clasico con huevo y papas." Loosely translated that would be a classic hamburger with egg and fries. It feels so very White Spot for those of you who have been to Charlottesville. On the counter are homemade dessert cakes and glass jars of cereal. The whole place has to be no bigger than 15 feet wide by 35 feet deep, including the kitchen, sink, microwave, grille, dessert display case, a full-sized refrigerator and seating for 14 at 18-inch deep counter space lining the walls. Red and green padded-stools hug the blue bar counter around the walls while the husband and wife team run the place with a familial professionalism. Over the diner speakers plays "Maneater" ... read more

After a very early start on Monday morning I got my first flight to Madrid from Heathrow. It was leaving at 6.20am so we had to be there at ridiculous 0 clock in the morning! Mum, Dad and Chris were going to work after seeing me off so I bet they were feeling shattered! Im very grateful to all of you for taking me, thankyou! We flew with Iberia, it was Ok but pretty basic. The flight from Madrid to Lima was delated by about 40mins so when we eventually landed in Lima (after 11.5 hours) we thought we d missed our transfer to the hotel, and when out bags came off near the end we were panicking slightly that they were missing, luckily we made it to the hotel bags and all!
