Gorgeous food, shame about the view!

We started early again, getting a taxi at 4am to take us to Quito airport to fly to Peru. This will be our 7th country on our journey. The flight was very quick and we landed in Lima at9am. We got a taxi to our hostel which is called Miraflores house. We were greeted by a lovely man called Francis who was very helpful showing us were everything was.

Lima is very grey and not pretty. There is a thick white fog over the city which makes everything damp. But we didn't come to Lima for the views, we came for the food.



Day one we headed out for a late lunch/early dinner as it being Sunday places shut early. We headed to a lovely bistro called Merced. We started with a local dish of black scallop ceviche. This was spicy and tasty, great start to the food. Phill then had scallops with Pisco butter (a local drink). I had crab, prawn and avocado wrapped in potato. Very different and very yummy. The food in Peru is very potato based, which is great for me. We finished off with local sweet potato doughnuts with fig sauce.We walked back, all the coats and jumpers are now on as it's cold compared to every were we have been so far.

Day two we had our first lie in for ages. We then headed out to have a look round Lima, its safe to say Lima will not win many beauty awards and is probabely the ugliest place we've ever visited (even Ellesmere port). We had some emparnades for lunch which are very much like pasties. Tonight we headed out for a tasting menu and wine to match at a restaurant called A.Central. Very posh, lovely scallop dish but the rest was ok. Bit disappointing.

Day three we went for a walk to the beach, not quite the same as the beaches we've been to so far.Today is our two year wedding anniversary so were heading out to another of Limas top restaurants. This one is a fusion restaurant called Maido. Here we had an 18 course tasting menu. The food was great Japanese and Peruvian. Some great dishes including our first try of Guinea Pig (sorry Libby) which was very yummy kind of like duck or rabbit. I will be trying it again across Peru as Phill seems obsessed with finding a whole one on a BBQ. This was a great meal, but I did feel like I would burst at the end.

Tomorrow we move on again to another part of Peru.
