Local ruins....
As I was too scared to go any further....
Or not, as the case may be... depending on your own level of bravery I suppose. After spending yesterday morning in a jet-lagged daze, and yesterday afternoon chatting to old Peruvian on a bench at the seafront (true story - Silvia. She was lovely... we exchanged email addresses but I can´t read her old lady handwriting) I thougt that today I better get out and about in Lima. I got up bright and early (not that it was my choice... stupid multi-country-jetlag) had mi desayuno, and had a little chat with the hostel staff about getting a bus into Central Lima. They visibly winced. You know what, I´m sure a lot of intrepid young travellers would have said NO, I can do this, I´m a brave, strong, sensible independent woman who knows how to both speak Spanish and hide her valuables subtely about her person. But I didn´t. I took their advice and signed on for a group bus tour instead. And I bet you´d do the same.... Lima is scary! The guide book says so!
Anyway, I spent the morning having a walk down and around the seafront and parks in Miraflores - reputedly the only safe places for non-locals to wander around. That´s where all the gringos and the rich folk hang out. It´s so strange, as there are some blatently blonde people who live there (guessing by the amount of dopg walking that was going on), leading me to wonder why you would move and live in a city which is mostly a no go area for you. I mean, Miraflores is alright but I would´t want to spend my life there. Anyway...
Hmm, I think someone else wants to use the computer... I´ll be back. Unless I fall asleep.
Besos
