I spent the weekend in Lima, which was great fun. The journey from the refuge to central Lima Friday night was terrifying. But after an hours bus ride i got there safely to stay at one of the house mothers homes.

During the day saturday i got to see the ´rich´part of Lima, being shown around the city and the beach. Also having a tour up Mount Cristobel where you could see the whole of Lima. A beautiful site.

In the evening i went back to a different house mothers home in Puente Pedra, she had a lovely home with a large family, who all welcomed me nicely. The sons took me to play for a local team Ciudad Lima Atletico, where we won 2-0. It wass such a challenge in the tremendous heat but great fun. It was surprising how little Spanish i needed to take part yet fit in to the game really well. After, i had a quick beer with the team, sat in the sun which was great to experience a local Peruvians typical Sunday. It is extremely family orientated here which i particularly love.

All the children of the refuge went home to see their parents/carers on the weekend, so it was nice to get back to the refuge/Casa Hogar and see them all turn up and be greeted with joy. As spending the weekend away, back in Las Laderas, where it is seriously deprived and poverty stricken, must be very tough.

Today i will do a great big volleyball tournament with prizes for the winning team.

I have been assured cargo will arrive by Thursday latest.
